Blood Pressure Monitors

I was looking at updating my current Blood Pressure monitor. I was reviewing the Omron M4 Intelli IT and the Omron M7 Intelli IT. I wondered whether anyone had any experience of either of these machines or whether I should be considering something different altogether. Advice or alternative suggestions gratefully received. Many thanks.

I'm inclined to agree with heartifact.

When I bought mine 3 months ago I looked at all of them and advice from here.

Basically, keep it simple ,unless you want bells and whistles- talking to your phone, measure steps, calories, pulse etc every 60 seconds!🥵😥😝

Do get an upper arm cuff one, and do check that the cuff size is applicable to your arm.

I got a Braun one on offer in Boots- has worked well. Comes with two cuffs which will be handy when I get obese!!

Only bell it has ,is that it can record two different patients ( useful if two of you using it, or the "mob" all want their readings done!!💚💚

Good luck with your choice.

Have fun!👍

Hi,

My GP suggested an OMRON device as being one of the best and I went for the M7 Intelli IT you mention. As I have AF the Irregular heart rhythm function is very good and quickly spotted when I returned to sinus rhythm (which was confirmed in Clinic) but it’s main advantage is it’s accuracy and memory function.

I had a pre Cardioversion assessment last week; I took my BP before going and was pleased to see how accurate it was compared to the hospital’s and in a separate discussion with the Cardiac Rhythm nurse I was able to show my am and pm readings for the last week on my phone to highlight my afternoon hypertension, the nurse was then able to take instant action and amend my medication. (and as an added bonus didn’t need the Cardioversion)

The M7 has a comprehensive memory of your previous BP readings which can easily be printed off ( instead of carting about a tatty piece of handwritten scribble) and shown to health professionals so they can see what is happening over time rather than a single snapshot on the day you attend. Even better than this, it has an App which I have found brilliant; all your data is available on the phone in a really clear and accessible format for whoever needs it. You have to sync your phone to the M7 which I found easy but if in any doubt enrol a young person to help (at my age, my definition of ‘young’ is anyone under 50)

I’m sure that there are many other cheaper devices, but when it comes to measuring something as vital as your Blood Pressure I feel the detail and accuracy - and portability of the data -are more important than how cheap a device is.

Hope that helps and good luck with whatever device you go for and for whatever treatment you are having.

I got the previous version of the Omron M7 on the advice of my GP. I've been using it for over four years now. I take my blood pressure at least once a week, often more frequently, so I've probably done over 1,000 readings with this machine. It still performs faultlessly (I calibrate it against the GP's machine every year, a service most GP's offer if you ask) and the cuff and hose still look brand new.

My GP talks about each heart patient trying to understand what was their individual "route into heart disease". One of the most common routes is high blood pressure. So checking your own blood pressure on a regular basis, and actively managing your blood pressure to keep it in the safe zone, is one of the most effective ways you can significantly reduce your risk of heart attacks or strokes.

I found three factors have really helped to get my blood pressure back where it needs to be. Firstly medication, chiefly beta blockers. Secondly exercise and weight loss. And thirdly a reduced salt diet with almost no processed foods, bagged snacks, or takeaways, which all tend to be very high in salt.

Engineers often say "what gets measured, gets fixed", so measure your own blood pressure regularly, log the results, and you're half way towards having healthy blood pressure scores with the extra years of active life that will bring

Good luck!

Dear Wellbrook

Had to look at my machine for you, its the Omron intelli sense , looking it up it was silly money but Boots had it in a sale.

Simple machine that has not let me down, have to { boring } take my BP three times a day { more if it seems high/low } and this thing has never let me down.

I think any model by this company seems reliable and respected by the medical world

Take care.........it's my time for my reading...........ZZZzzzzzzzzzzzz

Some of these BP machines-like washing machines, cars, heating controls etc- are far too clever for their own good. Unless you specfically want to take all manner of readings the basic Boots model is cheap and reliable.

Hi Wellbrook, I too have the Omron M7 Intelli IT. Works a treat, records everything, you can compare inbgraph form or lists of previous readings. You might be lucky to get a Black Friday deal 😀😀, get shopping!!!

hi

I got an omron x4 recently and it’s brill. Very comfortable and works a treat. I’d had a few wrist based ones but this is much better.

The Boots one is the Omron M2 Intellisense (labelled under Boots) and really accurate. Thats the one I use and is always reliable. Fair price too.

I’ve got the omicron 7 and I’d recommend it you can email your readings directly from the machine to your doctor or hospital etc. as your readings are all logged onto machine no need to write down on a piece of paper. My Gp likes me to send my readings once a month to him. You can add notes on it on a daily basis too.
