That's a really interesting article Uzinine - thank you for sharing it. Carol 🙂
thanks interesting read and concerning for those with and without heart issues.
Interesting article. I'll have to get my wife to read it and maybe she will stop turning the heating down and opening all the windows! Or...
Dress warm and keep moving, also if cold a hot water bottle really helps.
They tell us that cold increases heart rate and blood pressure. But, surely any activity, especially exercise does the same thing?
Hence, is getting cold now and again having the same benefits as exercise?
Hi, thanks for sharing this! Very interesting article, which I will show to my daughter. She doesn't believe me when I complain that I have turned into an icicle whilst waiting in their unheated house after collecting kids from school for her to get home from work !
'We're not cold!'says she as they are all scantily dressed, kids running about in short sleeves and no socks!!
'Yes, you may not be, but you're not 72 with a heart condition!!!' say I...
And later, back in my home which is considerably warmer than theirs I can't thaw out whatever I do! It takes the entire evening before I'm comfortably warm.🥶
On the other hand, their house is my sanctuary during heatwaves!
I would have probably perished in my own home this summer if I couldn't stay at my daughter's during the hot spells.🥵
I always dread the summer and I'm seriously worried that the heat will kill me and look forward to autumn/ winter...
Now this article! 🤔😬Seems like I can't win!
Hope all the hearties are taking good care of themselves, keeping warm and not being anxious about the cost.
Best wishes to all of you❤
Monica 😊
Hi Monica, I have AF and am on warfarin. As I've got older (74) I feel the cold more. Apart from putting the heating up to between 24-25c I have invested in M&S thermals, both short and long sleeved. They work. Here's the link:

The Heatgen plus are the best.
Reading your reply could be me and my father and my mother trying to live with my father….! I got a lecture from my family gp when my father was living with us.. the 25 degree c constant heat was doing is all in!
8 years on I have also been diagnosed with heart failure and for the first time in my life the extremes are getting to me!
I share your pain!
I read this yesterday. Good article. I read it because the heating in my building was off due to a power cut from about 11 in the morning to after midnight (when I got to sleep). I kept myself well wrapped up but I was wondering how cold affects hearties. I'm thinking about getting a food flask in case we do get the power cuts they've been talking about so I have hot food
hi that was interesting read I have heart failure and suffer from the cold even at 20c I can be cold. My hands are the first think that gets cold. My comfortable temperature is about 25c. Iv bought rechargeable hand warmers. And I now have a heated coat first day of using it yesterday and it is lovely. I have a ICD so had to get one with the battery pack at least 6 inches away from it. I also have teddy bear sheets which I use all year round. We are not going to have the heating on as much this year so will have to see how I cope with it
That is really interesting and obviously impacts those of us already suffering with heart diseases, I just can't cope at all in a cold house, I feel dreadfully ill and just going to have to use our meagre savings to pay the heating bills.
I have AT and on blood thinners so I feel the cold really easily and I need the temperature about 21 or I get really cold and it takes me such a long time to get warm once I am cold.
Hi all I watched a video about it and now I have been keeping an eye on the temperature as soon as it hits 18 I have been putting the heating on for an hour which brings it up to around 20 that seems to be ok if I wear a fleece and blanket for watching the telly. The overnight temperature has dropped a lot recently and it was 16.5 this morning I am staying in bed till the house heats up. Char
thanks for the link, it was informative.
Thanks for posting that link. It was interesting. I feel more justified now in my craving to be warm all the time.
Supper helpful advice explains so much why being cold majorly affects me. Thanks so much for sharing! ☺️
This time last year I ended up with hypothermia due to not putting the heating on , my husband was in America at the time and I started feeling really sick to the point I was worried about my doors being locked and being dead in the house alone and no one could get in , yup that bad . My son came down though and phoned 111 . Turned out yup hypothermia, because I’m fat and menopausal I was always wearing T-shirts and light clothing no socks etc . Today my husband had left to go to the states again his mom is dying and he told me as he was leaving if I don’t put the heating on when he is away he will never forgive me .
keeping back of the neck and ankles warm helps you to stay warm even if your hands are cold!
