I had my second Cataract Surgery on Friday of last week all done and all well.
It was carried out at a Private Clinic paid for by the NHS on all the brochures it say's working with the NHS with the NHS (blue &white) logo on almost every page!!.
I asked the nurse who put the drops in " you seem to be very busy "Yes we are doing up to 20 Cataract Removals a Day, we do it 7 Days a week. I read today Hospitals are empty at weekends with only Emergency procedures being carried out. Looks like we can see what's wrong, idle expensive diagnostic equipment shut down on Friday and started up again on Monday. I understand that Maintenance is required and some Machinery needs a Rest but is it being used correctly. No wonder we have huge waiting lists .

Glad you got your eye done, but like you said sad that equipment lies unused at weekends. When I had an angiogram done the 8 bed unit only works Monday to Friday and not on Bank holidays either. I had a bloodtest ona Friday before a Bank holiday and the place was packed, standing room only. If there are not enough nurses and other staff now, to would be hard to do those things at weekends too.
I was told as well a local hospital has 160 patients a month who should be going home or into care, but are stuck because no care available in the community. A big job to short out.
I appreciate that Drs work in both outlets, but and here comes the but why would a Hospital Dr be working in the private sector Monday to Friday?? I can see the weekend working but not mid week !!
I think one thing I have gained during these NHS debates is we are all trying to defend the almost indefensible. The NHS has needed change for years one thing I did learn during my career is "That we can all find reasons in the Past stopping us Moving to the Future and I think that is a root cause of the Crisis in the NHS.
