Happy i found this site. Approximately 15 months ago i had MV surgery . A few short months after i noticed pretty violent palpitations, enough to stop me in my tracks, now they just dont stop hardly . My sleep is 3 hours if im lucky a night and i am exhausted. Many holsters later and A&E all say my heart is fine, bloods are too. This is now having a profound effect on my day to day life. When i spoke to my cardiologist about it he said one in three will have this. Anyone else have this too? I am having my 12 month follow up appt bought forward and see if anything can be done. I take Bisoporal, Apsirin and Rimapril . So hard to relax, any advice would be most helpful to me.
Thank you :)👍

Good morning....I had mitral and tricuspid valve repairs in August. Had severe hospital infection after op and was in hospital 4 weeks. My wound is still slightly infected now but not the worry it was. I was kind of getting back to normal and feeling ok when after a few weeks noticed rapid heart rate and fluid build up along with added breathlessness. After weeks of trying to see people to no avail I ended up with the 39 hour A and E wait.....was admitted. Second week in hospital now and feeling better now than originally after op. I am in a different hospital and the care is amazing . Fantastic consultant has tried me on some new drugs and has been monitoring me. So pleased with results. He said that he thinks my heart is taking longer to recover because of the infection. I have been tested for endocarditis but clear. To support me for a while he has tried me on new meds and will further test my heart in a couple of months. I'm not saying there is anything wrong with you or your op....what I am saying is make sure you get answers and don't be fobbed off. Especially keep an eye on any fluid build up and pester people. You instinctively know when things aren't right so please push for answers. If you want to pm me at any time please do so. I hope you get sorted x
Are you saying your cardiologist is saying that 1 in 3 people regularly have this profound effect which means that it is 'normal' throughout the population? That sounds a bit hard to accept. Or does the cardiologist say the reactions you have are normal for the symptoms you present and the MV surgery?
Hi Sonnyh, after I had my mitral valve repair I had a racing heart, I was told I needed to have an ablation which was the only thing that helped me, medication wasn’t enough. However the ablation is a walk in the park compared to open heart surgery so maybe you need to keep pushing them. You shouldn’t have to live with a racing heart if they can do something. Good luck I hope you get things sorted soon. Andrea x
