Hello, I am going to have my mitral valve repair (or possibly replacement) surgery in a few months. I am only 39, so it is quite frightening. Has anyone had a minimally invasive surgery - I am really interested in the experience. Thank you

Mitral valve surgery
Bump. We have a number of younger members (and many of the older members) who've had mitral valve repair or replacement, hopefully by bumping your question back to the top of the feed one of them will reply with some helpful sharing of their experiences.
Hello,
Can’t comment on the surgery you asked about had my Aortic valve replaced and bypass done by open heart surgery.
I am sure there are some members who have had it done the way you want information on and will be long to try and help.
Wishing you well when you have your op.
Best wishes Pauline
Hi Katerina, I'm 57 and had my Mitral Valve replaced with a St Jude valve, under minimal invasive surgeory in January this year and all has gone very well. I was in CCU for two days then by about day four l was walking a little around the wards. No real pain to speak off, only a achy back. I'm not going to say the words “don't worry” its natural to feel concerned, but l can say l'm proof that it will be ok. Wishing you all the best.
Thank you very much. It sounds really reassuring I am having an appointment with the cardio surgeon tomorrow so hoping to get more information about the op.
I’m intrigued by minimally invasive surgery. Can I ask if this was NHS ? I’m in Scotland and shocked by very limited options .
Hi 21Scot, I live in Perth Western Australia, so can't really help your question. But, as far as the operation nearly two years on I'm doing really well. The only thing I don't like is being on warfarin but if that is all I must contend with well Happy Days!!! If you have any other questions, please let me know I’ll see if I can answer them. All the best.
😀

I too am likely to need a repair/ replacement mitral valve. I’m 75 and not aware of any symptoms and feel fit and active for my age. Like you feeling apprehensive so pleased to see reassuring posts on this site.
