Don't panic and don't Google - there is a lot of out of date information and utter rubbish out there. Make an appointment to see your GP to discuss things and ring the BHF nurses in the morning. They have a great understanding of these issues.
In the meantime make a cup of tea and read a book, watch TV (nothing much on tonight) or play some music. And don't Google!
Thank you, my GP is back on Thursday, the on call doctor surely can't diagnose me without being a cardiologist. But then he is a doctor. I am taking your advice calling them tomorrow. X
GP's are generalists. They often will have no specific detailed up to date knowledge on heart concerns and their treatment. By all means talk to your own GP and see if you need to be referred to a specialist
Hi. Hope that you are feeling a little bit better following the good advices so far. Your GP is better placed to explain. Be prepared : write down the questions that you want to ask, I mean ALL questions, do not worry if you think they are "stupid" questions. Thursday is not far. Of course if you feel unwell or experience any chest pains, then call them straightaway. In the mean time, keep yourself occupied with things that you enjoy. Now, big smile....🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂
If it's any consolation I was sitting in my hospital bed at 39 reading that DCM had a 2 year 20% survival rate being absolutely miserable until I found out that vast majority of cases are diagnosed near end of life... Everything situ is different band the drugs that have helped me recover and regain function had only been out for a few years... Now looking at much better prospects
Oh for heavens sake do NOT Google. SOme things you find on there are enough to give you a HA immediately- a lot of dreadful rubbish. I was told I have two 64% blockages in my LAD. I'd no idea what LAD meant so I googled and found literally hundreds of ( Usually American) pages calling it the window maker.. It's a common term there. Frightened me almost to death. The best cardiologist in the world would never be able to give you a specific life expectancy. How many thousand of people were tested to get those figures? What other problems did they have? They may have only got details from a hundred or so 80+ year old who already had years of heart problems. Statistics can be made to mean anything you want them to. Only ever use reputable websites like the NHS or BHF.
I am sorry to hear that you have been given this news with little or no explanation, i hope you can find out more soon and get a prompt referral to a cardiologist
Please contact the BHF helpline, they are very helpful and more likely to be able to give you accurate information and advice than google and maybe even your GP - if you cna and they will let you, you could record the call so that you can listen again and absorb important information at leisure
