Clocks Go Back Tonight!

We will be changing the clocks again this weekend. This government needs to change the official instruction of 2:00am Sunday.

This means you have to get up out of your nice warm bed at this ungodly hour and stumble around your house altering all your phones, household clocks and devices. However, most of all I hate having to go out the house (in the cold & rain) onto the driveway at 2am in my pyjamas to change the car dashboard clock. Then before I go in I have to rotate my sundial 15 degrees and it is heavy!

This 2:00 am nonsense was obviously not thought through properly. Surely, it is time to change the official time that you have to alter your clocks.

Hello :-)

I agree a bit of a stupid time to expect people to change their clocks

I change mine before I go to bed whatever that time might be

On a negative the dark nights are now here but on a positive for those that like their sleep they will get an extra hour in bed tomorrow :-)

Thank you for the reminder :-) x

How about later at 12.00h when most folks are up and about? That wont cause too much of a problem will it? Except some folks will have to wait an hour longer for the pubs to open (autumn) or will miss an hour's drinking (spring), which is a small price to pay for your wet pyjamas

I only have one actual manual clock to change and I’ll be doing that after breakfast, our phones etc all update automatically, the car I’ll change on Monday morning when next start it. And the cooker it’ll soon be correct again as I just leave it! 😂

Pity the NHS night staff who don't get paid for the extra hour they have to work.

Are they docked an hour in the spring?

Milkfairy profile image
MilkfairyHeart Star in reply to Heythrop51

No, they get paid for a 12 hour shift even though they only work 11 hours.

I used to work nights and always got put on the duty rota for the night the clocks went back but never when the clocks went forward. Disgruntled former night nurse!

Pretty sure that's the look I used to give the night sister who did the rota 😄

I think this may have been lost on some people Michael, but I am with you.

Thank goodness for automated smart phones. 😀

This is the 21st century. Surely you have an automated sundial!

Some years it can take me up to 6 months to alter the clock in my car!

Thanksnhs profile image

i took so long one year it was time to change it back again! In reality it was a new car and I didn't know how to do it.

Cat04 profile image

it takes me that long to find the instructions! 🤣

Nice one! I take it on myself to change the clocks of rich elderly residents nearby.

"So that is why I was breaking into that house at 2AM your honour..."

Nadeje profile image

I change clocks either before going to bed or in the morning!

However, this morning when my hip pain woke me up, I saw that my alarm clock says 5.45am, not too bad I thought...will take my morning tablets as I am up...

Then I switch my mobile on and it rudely corrects me that it is actually 4.45!!! 😡😤🤬

Btw, no need to do your clocks at 2 am, it's not the law, why complicate your life? The Time police isn't coming!

It's so ey and gloomy my sundial doesn't work! Makes me wonder how useful solar panels are?

devonian186 profile image
devonian186 in reply to Heythrop51

In this country they have an efficiency of 10.8%. In torbay we are one of the sunniest parts of the UK but still only have 1750 hours of sun. Many areas average 1500 so their efficiency is even lower. Over the next six months panels will operate at around 4.6% efficiency so a waste of time on cold cloudy days and long winter nights.

I had a large panel fitted on my garage roof a few years ago.!!!!

I should have bought a dozen chocolate fire guards instead.???

Absolutely garbage.!! My friend had his house roof covered in them and he reckons they will have paid for themselves when he turns 135 years of age.!!!!

devonian186 profile image
devonian186 in reply to Jetcat

Solar panels attracted heavy subsidies but when they are most needed, during the winter and at night, their power output goes missing. 85% are made in China, mostly by coerced Uighurs and use vast amounts of coal in their production so once again we have outsourced our jobs, our co2 and our energy security. At the very least panels need to track the sun but that is a complicated expense that will not happen on roof tops

I agree

Overpaid in the spring and underpaid in the autumn.

Have a thought for Suella Braverman, whilst you were up at 2.00am she was up all night demanding that her clocks went back to where they came from.

In the 21st century I just find the whole thing of altering the clocks twice a year ridiculous!

Well, I'm amazed that anyone would consider attempting to alter the clock in their car at any time of day, let alone at 2 a.m. I prefer to mentally adjust the time shown by an hour... after all, it's only for half the year. 😀

Even my washing machine has a clock on it, got to find the Manuel or my smalls { not so small anymore } will be whizzing around at some ungodly hour ! and the stupid child lock will go into overtime.

At home my dad had this theory that you should change the clocks earlier on the Saturday so we would get used to it in the evening. Caused chaos because different clocks in the house showed different times; some got changed twice, some not at all. We missed TV programmes or went out earlier or later than intended.

Oh, memories😉

Is there a harsh penalty for non compliance with 2am clock manoeuvres ? Maybe an enforced flight to Rwanda? But how would one know at what hour the flight departs?? 😜

working overtime a few years ago I got there at 7am. I didn't notice the clocks had changed until I put my pc on then I was raging! My boss duly arrived at 7.30 walked by me said morning as always, phew me thinks, he hasn't noticed the stupidity until he stopped turned round burst out laughing and pointed out the fact that I obviously forgot about the clocks as I would never turn up early for work, he then proceeded to tell everyone when they arrived at 8. It never happened again. Char

I always find the turning back/forward of the clocks far too stressful!! Pretty much everything is automated these days.....but are they??? (the car isn't!) Then I can never remember if it's 2am on the actual Sunday or 2am on the Monday morning they change! I end up going round the house to try & find something that isn't automatic so that I know whether or not the the other clocks have definitely changed!! Then I had a brainwave & asked Alexa what the time was!! Sooo how long have I had Alexa and this is the first time I've asked her! 🙄😵‍💫 🤣 I do know someone who forgot about it one year and ended up going to work an hour earlier than he needed to 😳🤣

Why not leave the clocks on BST 365 days of the year. longer day light in the afternoon. There was a Private Members Bill a few years ago, with the backing of the safety campaigners and Scottish farmers. But like a lot of Private Members Bills a certain MP managed to talk for so long that it was talked out of Parliament.

😂😂😂. My car clock is right now as I forgot to change it in March!!!!!!

Hope you're keeping well and thanks for the laugh - Gord knows we need it! All the very best. Jan xx

regardless of what time I go to bed I change the clocks , if I go at 10pm then they’re turned back to 9. I certainly wouldn’t get up at 2am to change the clocks, I’d never get back to sleep 😴

Most clocks in our house go back automatically - the only ones I have to change are the cooker and car.

we were always advised to move to the house next door – much easier than moving the sundial!
