Echocardiogram results

I decided to have a private echocardiogram instead of waiting for the NHS one to come through. The report has been sent to my cardiologist and my doctor. Does anyone know how long it takes for them to contact you after receiving results?

this might give you a little peace……

I had an echo on the last day before cardio department closed. Next day, The consultant rang me from her home phone, to tell me all was not well.

So when things got serious the medics came up trumps and moved very fast.

I was operated one month later.

I hope you are not in my category, I had weeks left to live. Now I am alive

2 + years on.

Thank you, I know it has shown reduced ejection fraction and dilated LV, but I’m guessing it’s not a big issue and I’ll probably hear something in a few weeks or months even. X

Like Black cat Sooty I had a echocardiogram done in May on a Monday afternoon and I had my GP on the phone by 10am on the Tuesday to tell me I had a aortic valve problem. so you will hear quickly if there is a major problem.

Thank you.

Why not talk to the people who have this information at their disposal either the GP or the cardiologist (or his secretary)? I suggest as you have paid for this service you are entitled to know the outcome as soon as the results becomes available, irrespective of what has been found.

My echoes are carried out by a private company working for the NHS. They always send the report to my cardiologist the following day. The hospital then sent me an appt letter the day following that. If there is anything serious going on you can be assured you will be contacted rapidly.

Otherwise just contact your gp if they have got the result. I also get a copy of my full echo report from my consultant's medical secretary.

Thank you for replying. I’ve not heard anything after the results were sent to them 2 weeks ago. I know it’s flagged a couple of things up (I already have left bundle branch block). Just wondering how long I should give it before I contact them.

if you are concerned contact them now - it will at least give you an idea of how soon you can expect a report from them

If your gp has already got the report no harm in contacting them now, although my gp doesn't know much about cardiology (by her own admission). Ring or email your cardiologist's secretary & ask when you might get the report/appt.

I also ring the hospital appt office and ask when I might get an appt. I can't stand the not knowing but if I'm given a rough time schedule & I know when to expect it, I can cope better with the wait, if that makes sense. 🙂

Thank you! That is exactly my feeling! I think I’ll email the cardiology secretary. X
