I have recently been approved to take Vascepa as I have very high Triglycerides and have previously had a heart attack. I haven’t started taking it yet, but I was just wondering if anyone had experience of this drug that they could share. Many thanks.

Hello :-)

I have not taken this drug even though I take plenty others due to heart attacks and Bypasses

I just wondered having had a heart attack and been recommended to take this drug why you are not getting it in you :-)

I have a massive med fear and I was mortified when I was handed all the drugs I was given to take but I told myself now is not the time to let this fear beat me they are needed so take them

Some may have had experiences taking this drug and will reply but also remember others experiences may not be the same as yours will be so think about taking it as it could suite you very well and if not then your Doctors can look at what different drug that will do the same thing you could try but please you need to start it and let us know how you get on :-) x

Thank you for your reply. I am not yet taking the drug as it was only approved for use in July and I am waiting for my health authority to get it in stock. I believe it is very expensive so is not being widely prescribed. I’m going to take it but a little nervous as it is so new.

Hello :-)

That is possibly why I have not heard of it if it is new

You will have to let us know all about it when you get it and start it :-) x

For any medication to get regulatory approval, it must go through extensive testing during Phase I, II and III clinical trials and demonstrate effectiveness and a reasonable safety profile.

If the MHRA have approved it, and your GP has recommended it, it should be ok for you to take.

All medication comes with potential side effects, and if you experience any then please report to your GP, pharmacist, or directly to the MHRA through the yellow card scheme.

As this is new on the market, there may not be many people that have direct experience with the drug, but it will have been tested in thousands of people to get to where it is now.
