I have severe Tricuspid regurgitation.I have had this regurgitation for c 15 years .It is now inoperable. In part this is due to the fact that Tr. surgery is rarely done, and esp. in older people, if that is the sole reason to operate. If they are doing another surgery on your heart then they may consider the Tri. surgery as well.Usually this means closing the valves with clips ,if possible. I have had various opinions as to whether it is worth having done. For many years it was thought that people could manage without Tri. surgery and that the regurg. did not matter too much. I quote from docs. /cardios. i have seen over the years. I am not a medic. I am only treated now for Atrial Fib. with Bisoprolol and since my 'attacks' are infrequent I am pretty well ok for 84. not breathless and pretty active. I walk a couple of miles most days and do regular exercises to an online video. This may give you a few answers to the problem you have with the tricuspid valve.
Thank you for replying,it’s good to hear that you have been okay,it’s still all quite new to me,this time last year I was told I had a leaky valve, then I was admitted because of breathlessness and told I had a second valve problem, I was admitted again and my diagnosis was A fib which hadn’t been mentioned before, and that’s when the echo said three valves were compromised. I was 76 first time and the years have gone so quickly I suddenly realise I am almost 80.!
It’s good to hear your experience 10gingercats, thank you for sharing it. I’ve been told I have a moderate leak on my tricuspid valve and that’s caused my right atrium to dilate, I’ve also got paroxysmal AF. The cardiologist wasn’t particularly concerned about the leak. I’ve been worrying about what happens as it progresses (I’m 57 and it’s gone from mild to moderate in 10 years) but hearing your story, even if it becomes severe, it seems it won’t be too much of a bother - you’re much fitter than I am by the sound of it!
