Leaky valve

In may I was admitted with SO B , I was told I had had a mild heart attack on the result of my blood test. I then had a heart scan and was told it was a mild to moderate leaky heart valve, but I didn’t need any treatment. I still had symptoms and in August I was readmitted due to having a mild flare up of pancreatitis. It was bank holiday weekend and the doctor in Medical assessment said I should have another heart scan, but as it was bank holiday weekend they weren’t doing them until Tuesday, the consultant on the medical ward said I didn’t fulfil the criteria for an inpatient scan and discharged me on the Monday, but arranged an outpatient scan, which I had in October, this shows progression of symptoms, which she said would explain my increasing SOB . I have an appointment with the Cardiologist this week, and I am concerned as to what to expect.

Hello Nnanny

I would imagine he could order some more tests. First off a echocardiogram none invasive will give home some answers. What sort of pressure your heart is pushing out. The gold standard is the angiogram, this will tell him exactly what is going on. This is invasive but it’s nothing to worry about.

I had Aortic valve replaced and bypass done 5 years ago. I am grateful every day to the medical team that gave me my life back.

Try not to worry I know silly thing to say! But you are now on the Cardiologist radar and they will give you a mended heart before you know it.

Best wishes Pauline

Thank you ,for your reply I think because , I had two admissions in a matter of weeks, and both times felt things were rushed to get discharged,I didn’t have a lot of confidence in the system,so hopefully it might be better to be treated as an outpatient.

I am sure once you see the cardiologist he/she will get things done. Having breathing difficulties is so scary, but with the right treatment you will be back on the right path.Let us know how you get on.

Best wishes Pauline

I had my cardiology appointment today and he said he is not too concerned about the leaky valve, but the other symptoms I am having justifies an angiogram,he also changed some medication,so I will just have to wait and see!

I had my cardiology appointment this morning, and my medication has been altered and am angiogram has been arranged. He said he wasn’t too concerned about the heart valve, but because of other symptoms my coronary arteries should be investigated. I am glad I insisted on a face to face appointment, even though it took a few phone calls.
