Pacemaker Fitted, Lets talk?

Hello all, i am maddz, 31 and serving in the army as it stands.

In feb 2021 i fainted and for 17 months suffered with dizziness and grey outs.

I spent 13 days in hospital having lots of tests, until my treatment was decided to have a pacemaker fitted.

I am now 2 days into having a pacemaker, and would like to see if i can start a support group for people with this problem or same issue.

It would be nice to talk to others, having it for 2 days and i have felt some wierd moments, i must aadmit.

Has anyone else had a pacemaker and how do you feel, how is life like for you?

anyone else in the forces been Medically discharched because of a Pacemaker and how is life now?

Thanks for all comments 🙏

Dear Maddzpace

What an incredible shock you have had and the change that it may have on your army career

First let me welcome you to the forum with the hope that it can provide you with some answers and support.

It sounds like that you may need a more specialist group of which there are many out here, Pacemaker uk being the one that I am on along with many others.

I am ex forces but left long before my pacemaker was fitted so that is something that I am afraid that I cannot answer but I am sure that the forces have guidelines for this type of procedure as I am sure you are not the first and sadly not the last.

If you are asking if there is life after a pacemaker is fitted then without a doubt there is and a quality one at that { depending on your diagnosis } as for if the forces allow it that is something only they can answer.

I wish you all the luck in the world, remember that you are not alone.

Take care

hi Maddzpace - welcome to the battery-operated team 👍 as blue1958 says, Facebook has a Pacemaker U.K. group and a Pacemaker Support Group as well, and you can also get some good info from the Pacemaker Club (just Google it!).

Good luck 🙂

Good morning MaddzPace. I hope you're keeping well. There's a pacemaker uk group on Facebook if you use that as well and it's a great support group as well. But sure you get more replies as well. Brian

Ask your own hospital about that; maybe they need someone to initiate one. My ICD was implanted at Wythenshawe (M/c) in 2011 and their Support Group was well established; even had two Cardiologists attend every time (quarterly) for a Q & A session.
