Edoxaban and gout

I have in the 3 months been put on edoxaban for afib and now I have gout, I am currently in flare up which has been going on for 7 weeks. I have had two courses of Colchicine and two courses of Prednisone, both have failed to clear the gout. I am in agony everyday. Tomorrow my GP is injecting my ankle to try and relieve the pain. I really think this is connected to the edoxaban, but the doctors are not sure. I have completed a yellow card and I just hope I get sorted soon. Anyone else out there had similar problems and how did you get rid of the gout when you can't be prescribed regular anti inflammatory drugs to help you because it clashes with edoxaban? Thanks in advance.

Hello :-)

I only ever had gout once years ago now I have no clue how it happened and it does not sound anything as bad as yours is but I remember it well and how painful is was so I really do feel for you

I hope that injection helps and your medications get sorted soon if they are the cause

I am sorry I cannot be much help but wanted to wish you all the best and let us know how you get on :-) x

Hi Eddie, I have had the same problem, had gout 7 times. Colchicine didn't do the trick so my GP put me on Allopurinol which has stopped me getting it anymore. The gout was caused by my medication nothing specific, not diet. I'm on Edoxaban now but was on Warfarin at that time. Sorry that you're suffering, it's a terrible thing to have.

Hi. Gout is excruciating I know. I am on edoxaban but haven’t had more gout nor worse pain than before I was on it. I always treat mine with ice packs tied onto the gout area and changed really often, keeping the affected foot elevated. I use the gel type of packs and keep them frozen to use immediately. Since doing this treatment, I can often head off the gout and avoid steroids and the like taking simple paracetamol to keep the pain at bay. I understand how awful it all is. I have literally screamed in agony and needed crutches to move in the past. Early treatment is the key for me! Good luck.

Hi, I’m on Edoxaban and my left big toe really hurts sometimes, I’ve always blamed it Arthritis but maybe there’s a connection, it never occurred to me. Goodness, another possible side effect🙀

my husband was a gout suffere for many years and did t want to be put on allopurinol because of side affects.

He took nsaids for pain during a flare up which i wasnt happy with because its overuse is linked to heart issues.

So a couple of months ago i came across a natural supplement called gout stopper and i kid you not this worked stopped the flareups within days and has worked ever since so gout sufferers give it a go.

And no i do not have any connections with the company

I had worsening arthritic pain with apixaban snd so changed to rivaroxiban, still pain in joints so changed to edoxaban. I must confess, I haven’t started it, cardiologist said pain unlikely to be doac in nature. It did occur when I had to stop nsaids for arthritic pain, still taking cocodamol, top up with oramorph if I can’t move, and started taking ibuprofen instead of diclofenac, can’t tolerate naproxen. I have got new joint pain in knuckles bunion area since doac. I know the risks with AFib and no anti clotting agent but I have to balance quality of life due to increased pain without anti inflammatory meds. I’m a veggie so maybe legumes snd greens making honey pain worse. I don’t have particularly high purine diet. It’s all balancing act. Hope u better soon take care ❤️

thanks for your response. I know exactly what you mean about a balancing act, it is and since being on edoxaban I have been in pain with gout. It might not be linked but it is a very good coincidence!
