STILL HERE!

Good morning all....not expecting answers again but just giving quick update. It is a setback for me unfortunately and a longer stay in hospital . All going extremely well and I got side kicked with an infection.....turned out to be MSSA and knocked me off my feet for a few days. Straight onto heavy duty antibiotics but have to stay in until at least 11th sept. Had a bit of a meltdown Initially but couldn't be getting better care. Am now up and mobile again and am getting my mojo back. Just one of those things so got to get on with it. Feeling better each day....pain getting less each day. really can't fault the care and they have been very quick to action things. Still very thankful......don't be put off......I was just unlucky to get an infection....it's major surgery so we must keep open minds whilst still staying positive. Enjoy the rest of your weekend....xxxx

Morning Larneybuds

So sorry to read your post, but pleased your being so well looked after.

Your positive mind set will certainly help in your recovery.

Just remember when you get home, follow all the instructions you will be given, keep doing your breathing exercises they really help. Listen to your body rest when it tells you I am tired. Baby steps.

Very best wishes

Pauline

Thank you Pauline. Yes ....I believe it was being prepared after doing exercises etc pre op that I initially started to recover quickly. I am already back up doing my walking and exercises and as you say ...just listening to myself and resting. The staff are so good and are checking you are ok all the time. I am still very thankful for this gift I have been given xx

Like you I am grateful every day to the medical team that gave me my life back. It’s been 6 years since my surgery. I have been able to see my family thrive, I have 5 granddaughters have seen the eldest start university the second one starts this month. All these girls will change the world one way or another, and without my gift I wouldn’t have been able to witness this.We are the lucky ones.

Best wishes Pauline

Hi and thank you. Yes I have every faith in the doctors and nurses. They have been on the ball so far. It's just one of those things and with such big surgery, anything can happen. Still very thankful and looking forwards. Still had I've had it done. Take care xxx

Iam glad to hear that you don't regret having it done. It is a big operation. But if you feel the positives from the surgery then it can only boost your confidence and mental health.

Bless you. Thank you so much. Yes....it's been a set back and I've had to start from scratch again really but am feeling better with each day and though it's been a bit disappointing to get an infection it's such a big op so I'm not going to spend too much time dwelling on it. Still positive and enthusiastic. Hope all ok with you at mo. Have you heard anymore xxxx

Hi Elaine. I have finally seen my consultant at Leeds General infirmary on Friday. I thought it was never going to happen. I can't have open heart surgery as they have found I have high white cell count so it will be the tavi procedure.. I will take the hospital that has the earliest date as I had been referred to Liverpool as well. So tired of waiting now. How are you doing now. Hope you are feeling a bit better. Lovely to hear from you again. Sending positive thoughts. Xx

Larneybuds profile image
Larneybuds in reply toGardeningFlowers

So pleased you've st least heard....even that's a relief. TAVI will be much easier to recover from and not as traumatic on the body.....recovery is also fairly fast and you also don't stay in hospital as long. That's like a win I reckon and good news..really pleased for you....let's hope the wait isn't too long now. Apart from this infection setback I already feel better than I did pre op and am feeling stronger now by the day. I really can't complain about anything. The staff are wonderful and I am so grateful at for this chance of getting some normality back. Please keep me informed how you go and don't forget to pester!!! Take care xxxxx

Sorry to read your post. We all get setbacks that throw us and put us into meltdown. I'm pleased you seem to have found your positive mindset, which at times can be difficult. Glad you posted every bit of support is so important. Take care

I can relate to your disappointment in having to stay in hospital as it happened to me, but only for a few days in my case. It is natural to want to get home and into familiar surroundings amongst family and friends.

Keeping positive is the key to recovery and you've obviously got oodles of that. 😀 I'm sure you'll be doing all the right things when you get home and will go from strength to strength.

With my best wishes,

Gerald

Hi Gerald....thank you for your reply. I will have been in for neatly 4 weeks by the time I go home so it will have given people a rest from me lol. Because of cancellations I've had some time now to think about recovery etc and did as much as I could to prepare and I'm so glad I did that. I regard this as a gift and I will be doing everything I can to keep it in good condition. Thank you again for your kind reply x

MountainGoat52 profile image
MountainGoat52 in reply toLarneybuds

Yes, indeed it is a gift. I see it as a privilege as well as I could have been born somewhere else in the world without health care. I probably would not be alive now, or at the very least have to live a restricted lifestyle.

When I had my bypass I vowed to get on with life and not squander the opportunity to do the things that I enjoy and I very much hope that it will be the same for you when you have recovered.

Take care and onwards and upwards!

Gerald

Gerald this is so very true. Unfortunately waitlists and cancellations need to be sorted but the care and expertise is to be admired. I got so debilitated from being an exceptionally active person and this is me being granted a new crack of f the whip. I will be forever grateful. Thank you for you kind words xxx

Good morning....because I was initially so shocked and scared with my diagnosis, I just wanted to take the fear factor away for anyone waiting for OH surgery's. You know nothing....it's all so well managed....it's not a walk in the park but it's nothing like I imagined either. Stay positive, do what you can to prepare yourself physically......and do as you are told by the staff. They are the experts. I already feel different to pre op and am looking forward to being able to have some quality of life back. Thank you for your lovely words. Take care xx

Good morning......I remember how frightened I was initially and how those close to me found it all difficult and upsetting because I am never ill so I decided to go on my own mission to learn, get advice and yo try to speak to people who were going through similar and might understand . I'm so glad and grateful for this forum and the support there has been from people. All I want to do now is perhaps help others or reassure them too. The best way I have got through it all is to stay positive and hopeful even though initially I was so very scared. Yes I've had a setback but can already notice the difference in myself and I will continue to reach for that end goal do that I can fully enjoy a healthier future. Thank you for your kind words xxx

I love reading your threads it has so many positives. You take care and a new life is I the making. So it is not as bad as the mind makes it out.?

Hi and thank you for your reply. Personally I think we are very good at conjuring up things in our minds when we don't actually have a clue what it will be like..I know one particular thing I was freaked out by was the removal of the ventilator tube upon coming out of the anaesthetic......you know nothing about it. all I remember is they put me out very quickly and it only seemed minutes when I could hear my name being called. It was in fact over 5 hours. I vaguely recall coming round in ICU for a while but then for didnt really know much else until the next day. Pain is managed do well for you and the staff are just wonderful. I will now remain positive even though I've had a little set back. I'm still feeling better by the day and already feel better than I did pre op so there's only one way to go now.thank you for yr lovely words....all I really want to do is help take the fear out if it for people. Take care xxx

That's why I love reading your thread. It does give some positives to grasp onto. See I may need my tricuspid valve worked on due to the epsteins. At present all I know is they will discuss me at their meetings. My consultant said there are twenty five way that this could be done. Would be nice if they could send a little robot in and he fixes it. Any way as you did say your mind plays many tricks on you and that's the worst bit, is the anxiety and worry Beforehand. Because you are trying to imagine it. But it is not for us to worry. You have to put your trust and faith in these wonderful clever people. I am glad to hear that every day you are feeling stronger. You must be so proud of yourself. Take care.

Larneybuds profile image
Larneybuds in reply to

Thank you for your reply. Your consultant will work out exactly the best route for you and what will give the best outcome. Put your faith in them.As I said, I was so frightened myself but knew that had to turn it around. I made myself as knowledgeable as I could....only read things from trusted sights, did appropriate exercise and breathing...So glad I did and basically realised that all the worrying in the world wouldn't make the situation, pain or recovery any different. You can't spend time worrying about something you have no idea about spend brain space on being positive and thinking about revovery instead. I am still going to move forwards positively....every day is a bonus and I am so grateful for all that has been done for me. I hope you get some definite answers soon. Take care xxxx

Hi Larneybuds, Being stuck in hospital is something I can empathise with 100%, it's unfortunate and challenging, but, I have a feeling you're the same as me, and it will just make you more determined in your recovery. Whatever is thrown at you in the future, good or bad, this gives you an insight you never thought you'd see, and it can be quite remarkable how you deal with it, along with your family. You're correct it is a gift, I've long called it my "Gift of Life" so eloquently portrayed by The Jam, in a song called "The Gift" which I sometimes think was written for the likes of us.

Keep positive and strong and you'll soon be out.

Take Care

I couldn't agree with you more. I am so determined now....not going through all that not to succeed lol. It does give you a new outlook and I feel like I could deal with most things now . I will give that sing a listen . Thank you for your lovely words and I can only hope my enthusiasm is as keen as yours in future. All the best xxx

I was sorry to hear about the infection—-sometimes it doesn’t just rain, it pours. However, I was very happy to hear that you are improving each day! That is wonderful news!

I pray that you continue to get stronger each day, and that you maintain that lovely positive attitude. Take care of yourself and blessings.

Hi and thank you for message. Yes a bit of a set back but I'm not dwelling on it. It's such a big operation so you are more prone to things happening aren't you?. However, I have to say that today is my best day and I haven't actually felt this well for a long time. It it weren't for my chest still feeling bruised and very tender I would feel even better. All I have you do now is build up some strength. Been for two good walks today around the cardiac unit and out into corridors so strength is something I will work on. Thank you again for your kind words. Take care xx
