Hi guys in may I had cardiac ablation , but unfortunately it was way more complicated than first thought and was on the table for 6 hrs and during my recovery which I’m still in the process off I have felt very depressed and useless on top of these I’ve suffered permanent nerve damage to the entry sites of the op through my groin and was just wondering if someone or knows of someone who has experienced these issues before ( I was 17 at the time of the op ) .

Hi. I can’t imagine going through what you did at 17. It must have been incredibly difficult. I can empathise with the depression as I felt the same after my surgery. It’s normal to have these feelings after going through traumatic events. I think that doctors are so focused on repairing us physically that the psychological recovery gets forgotten about. You’ve been through an awful lot and your mind, as well as your body, needs time to recover. I don’t know how you get on with your gp but maybe ask for a referral to counselling. You should also be able to refer yourself to talking therapies. I’ve found the best way of dealing with my anxieties is to talk about them. This site is great for getting support so don’t be afraid to post if you want advice or reassurance. Sometimes it really helps to talk to those who have been in the same position and understand what you are going through. You are not alone. Best wishes.
