I woke yesterday morning feeling much more positive. I’d had a good night’s sleep thanks to the pet cool pad I rested my legs on. I read an article first thing stating people on antidepressants are having difficulty regulating their body temperature so I’ve decided that I’m not going to take the pills until I’ve tried a few more avenues. The GP said I could try either the pills or therapy or both. A few years ago I read a book called “An astronauts guide to life on earth” by Chris Hadfield. I remembered how appropriate it was for how I am feeling now. So I’m going to read that again. I went to Waterstones yesterday and the first book I saw was “The Gladiator Mindset” by Adam Peaty. I’m a big fan of him so I bought it. I also bought “The Devil You Know” by Dr Gwen Adshead and Eileen Horne. I’m a big believer in fate so I think I’ll try these and Talking Therapies first at least until the weather cools. I started reading Adam Peaty’s book yesterday and couldn’t put it down. I feel much more positive today.

2nd update on panic attacks. Sorry I don’t know how to update the original.
Hello
Nice to see you so much more positive
You sound like you have plenty of reading material to keep your mind distracted
I think medication can be a last resort so if for you having therapy first and reading these books and seeing how you feel then that's a good idea
Hopefully it will work but you always know the medication is there if needed
Have a lovely day x
Glad you're feeling better, as I mentioned in my (deleted) post yesterday, talking about these things is often the most powerful therapy, I wish I'd done it earlier, but being a man we're supposed to 'get a grip' and soldier on....good luck
Hi. I’m so pleased you are feeling a bit better. I’ve started therapy through the nhs psychology service as the cardiac team referred me. It’s early days but Im hoping it will work. I think having heart problems can cause us to have ptsd like symptoms and I really believe in doing whatever works for you to get through it a day at a time. If reading is your thing then that’s fantastic. It’s a safe and positive thing to do!! I think you are right about antidepressants. I take them but I really struggle with heat regulation which I always just put down to being a woman of a certain age! Anyway, thanks for letting us know how you are getting on. It’s good to hear that you are feeling more positive. Big hugs x
Hi Maisie2014, it’s so lovely to hear you are feeling more positive. Please let us know your book recommendations. It would be lovely to hear. Take care, Judi
Hi Maisie Glad to read you are feeling more positive. Boy that Adam Peaty can swim!! My daughter and I have been glued to the screen these last few weeks watching the festival of sport - she was a gymnast and I a swimmer - so we follow avidly! Panic attacks are, IMHO, one of the most underrated problems people can experience. They are truly terrifying. But the good news is that the talking therapies route can be really positive - CBT is, according to all research, the most efficacious for dealing with this troublesome problem. Far far better than taking (more) pills .......but the wait times in NHS are now so long. If you get in touch with your local talking therapies team they could recommend some reading material (anything by Prof David Clarke). This would be a good idea to get you started while you wait..........
Let us know how you get on.
It's good to hear that you are feeling more positive. Thank you for keeping us updated.
I’m glad you’re feeling more positive. It’s interesting that there’s no formula that’s ‘ one size fits all, ‘ it’s so individual. I remember reading books on panic attacks would make me feel worse ! It explained the theory but that just reminded me of them ! I think talking ( and writing ✍️) are therapeutic. When you realise you’re not alone and are accepted as you are, helps I think.
Enjoy your reading and i hope you feel better and better.
Very good to hear and great that you are being so proactive 👏🏽I had CBT a few years ago as had suffered an awful experience and it worked extremely well for me (despite initially being very sceptical). Hope the reading material really helps.
