I go into hospital tomorrow for open heart surgery to replace my aortic valve.
I was in hospital just before Easter to have a TAVI . My surgeon decided I was a candidate for OpH surgery. Bit daunting but looking forward to having a better quality of life!

Hiya, all the best and hoping for a speedy recovery xx
Hello
I remember when I was going for my triple Bypass op and daunting it was
Unlike you I was on here weeks before throwing myself about not been able to cope with the thought
Everyone was so kind and all said to me I would be fine as soon as I got in there and the Nurses were fantastic I would feel at ease and guess what they were right
It is going to be daunting but you are in the best hands and focus on what you have said you are looking forward to a better life after
I wish you all the best and I hope you will keep posting and letting us know how you are and how your recovery is going x
Best wishes. I had open heart surgery two years ago. I am 74. By far the worst bit is waiting. Then it’s all improvements from then on. Something like 3 months during which time you will need help with day to day things
I found my much loved cat a great comfort and I still do.
My mother in law was Pat Tree so I knew it was right to reply even at 11pm.
Good luck

Hello wishing you all the best with your surgery and a comfortable recovery. 😊
Hi tbere, good luck with your operation. Im 4 weeks post operation, i had open heart to replace bicuspid aortic valve with a mechanical valve. I was terrified! 4 weeks later and I am feeling stronger each day. It is hard to believe you will move forward when you are in hospital, but trust me you definitely do! Each day is a new day to do a little more to get that body moving and recovered. Thinking of you and wishing you all the very best. Let us know how you feel in a few days. Xx
Had mine done at st barts, am 73 and have recovered well, surgery was early December
dear patrees
So sorry that I am late to the part to wish you luck with your operation, maybe you will read this during your recovery and know that both my thoughts and prayers are with you and your loved ones.
I had my AV replacement last September and I’m pleased to say I’m feeling pretty good. It’s a big but routine operation and you’ll feel pretty wrecked for a week or so but improvement will soon come. Be patient. Do as you’re told and take any support that comes your way. In due course cardio rehab is a must to help build your confidence. It’s normal to be a little anxious but before my operation my nurse told me not to worry because that’s the job of everyone else! The waiting is hard but once it happens take each day one at a time and before you know it the weeks will fly past and it will all be a distant memory. You’ll be fine and become a member of quite a select club. Best wishes.
Remember these surgeons are experts...you will be in good hands. The recovery will take time but be prepared for that as it will get better. Aftercare seems to be a problem with people once they have left the hospital so don't be afraid to speak up if you feel you have been forgotten.Come on here...tell people how you are doing and hear all their advice...it will make you feel that you are not alone. Best of luck.
Hello, along with all the other hearties that have sent you their very good wishes, I would like to add mine and wish you a speedy recovery. Take your time, be kind to yourself, don’t expect to much and if you can, link up with Cardio rehab as soon as possible. Judi
I’m very late to your post. You will be all done and dusted now I guess. All you have to do now is be very very kind to yourself and take heed of all the medical staff advice. I wish you well and hope you post on here to let us all know how you are getting on. Give yourself lots of time to improve … don’t be impatient !!! 🌹
