Original arteries and CABG

Hi all. So im wondering what happens to the arteries that have been bypassed. I know they are still there, but are they functioning still? Or do they just dry up or something? I've Googled but cant find any answer.

Thanks

Yes, they're still there and furthermore they continue to function much as they did before your operation.

If your medication isn't effective and you don't change your lifestyle then the original arteries will almost certainly continue to suffer from higher and higher levels of stenosis. But if you're fortunate with your medication and get serious about life style changes then your original arteries may well not deteriorate any further.

Wow, thanks for this info! I never thought to ask about the existing arteries. So interesting.

Hi thanks for this. This is not how i expected it to be. I inagined the new vein connected to the existing one on both sides of the blockage, not branching off like that. Very interesting, cheers.
