I feel the cold much more since my HA in December. I am on the usual assortment of medication, beta blockers, blood pressure tablets, aspirin etc. It's now June and our central heating is still on, especially in the evening! I think the blood pressure tablets could be causing me to feel the cold.

I feel too warm a lot.!! I need to have air flowing around me or I start feeling uncomfortable. Im on beta blockers but they haven’t cooled me down unfortunately.!!😳 can’t win sometimes 😂

Hello :-)

I imagine your Husband is on blood thinners ?

I am a women of a certain age that till I was put on blood thinners I was hot all the time when no one else was now it is the opposite I am turning the heating up and everyone else is complaining they are to hot and yet even with the heating up I can still feel freezing

It is due to the blood thinners keeping the blood thin so it does not form any clots

It is one of the side effects and normal if you are taking blood thinners but one that is worth it to keep that blood flowing :-) x

Hi, my husband is on a variety of meds since he had stents fitted 4 years ago. He is always cold now and whereas his hands were always warm they are now always icy cold.

Thanks for that it seems most on these heart tablets do feel the cold.

Dear Concker

A warm open armed welcome to the forum that nobody thought they would ever be a part of, I hope that it supports you both and helps you to get the answers to the questions we all have.

I am cold all the time and I was told that its a side effect of the drugs that I am on by my heart nurse.

She said that its very common { or I am, cannot remember which! } and that was backed up by the cardiologist.

When I get that “down to the bone” cold I have to have a shower/bath to warm my self up!

But at the end of the day its a small price to pay,

Now where are my gloves?

Take care

My beta-blocker, bisoprolol, gives me cold hands. One thing I eventually bought is a USB charged hand warmer - great little gadget 😊

Yes before HA I was like my Wife's radiator. People used to say I was always warm even on top of mountains. On the usual meds and I get cold hands and feet and other extrenities, The worse are cold eyes and nose. They therefore water a lot. My nose gets very sore continuously. My cardiac nurse said its due to beta blockers. Watering eyes is a real nuisance. Nose uncomfortable

I'm interested to read that beta-blockers lead to people feeling the cold more. Aren't there alternatives to beta-blockers?

Hands feet and especially nose.Grandkids call me Rudolph x

Good morning Concker

Since my HA I am always cold. I was told that it’s quite normal as blood is directed to the important organs so extremities suffer. I am still putting electric blanket on at nighttime. I don’t turn the heating up as makes no difference. I wear a thermal tee shirt. I think it is the norm u fortunately. A hot water bottle helps. I guess a small price to pay for life - but you have my sympathy.

While on Bisoprolol the skin on my arms/legs was usually cold. When I mentioned it the consultant changed me to Diltiazem [not a beta-blocker], and now no more cold skin.

hi,

i was always a warm person, to the point of wearing t shirts in the winter!!! since my heart attack I have become really quite cold, especially my hands. i was told it is the beta blockers that have this side effect. My GP said it is not the blood thinners as they don't have this side effect!? she reckoned it was the beta blockers as they slow everything down, and that includes your circulation

Since having my pacemaker I feel the cold much more, I’m on bisoprolol. I’ve always had cold hands but it’s got much worse since having my pm. Last summer we had a heatwave and my parents who are both in their seventies were dressed in summer clothes , there’s me aged 48 in jeans and two jumpers absolutely freezing . Everyone else in the house can feel warm but I’d quite happily put the heating on .

Thanks Concker for an interesting post. Yes, I m cold a lot - sitting here in body warmer at moment. Im on bisopoprol and apixiban . Often keep socks on in bed.Nurses have a problem getting my sats with finger monitor as my fingers often cold. I have this dream that post ablation, they'll take me off these medicines completely! (I'm allowed to dream I guess). Good luck!

My surgeon confirmed it is a known side-effect of Bisoprolol (and other beta-blockers) for cold hands/feet/nose. Other blood pressure meds may have different side effects as they achieve lower BP in different ways - ask your cardio as different meds may not be suitable for you. Good luck
