So earlier this week I visited the Gp check up (10 week post HA and stent). Having had problems with doses of ranpril and beta blockers where reduction to lowest possible dose had to be made. I have been able to tolerate this and GP insisting the ramapril is upped. I insisted that my bloods be checked , Friday I get a call from gp receptionist. Your bloods have cone back abnormal , they need to be redone ? I asked what the problem was but she said no one available to tell me, ring back Monday to see if they will take your call!!!! Imagine how I am feeling, two days of stressing about what might be as I gave not felt well since HA. Bloods rebooked fir Wednesday so always a week if stress and worry….. just not what is needed when recently had HA.

Abnormal bloods
Hello
I feel like saying those famous words don't worry but I won't as I worry and when people say that to me I could scream !
Tests are one thing waiting for the results well for those of us that tend to me more anxious it feels dreadful and yet when I am like this as I get terrible when waiting I try and tell myself worrying is not going to change the results again easier said than done
We have to take these medications and for our hearts they are needed and help to keep us fit and well but at the same time these blood tests are needed to make sure our other organs are not getting affected and if they are then they change the tablets so try and tell yourself well at least they are checking me and if and it is an if as I have had abnormal blood tests and second time round they have come back ok but if yours were still the same they would tweak your meds
If you still feel really worried then phone again tomorrow and tell the Receptionist that you need to speak to a Doctor and try not to take no for an answer tell them how this is affecting you
Let us know how you get on but no matter what you will be ok x
To tell you your bloods were abnormal, but leave you in suspense for a week seems thoughtless to say the least. It might just be something went wrong in the lab, but I can understand why you are worried. I would agree with Bekind that you need to get some sort of answer tomorrow. If they are not redoing them before Wednesday, that suggests it's nothing too serious. I hope you get it sorted soon.
Dear cazada
How very unprofessional of your GP surgery to give you that message in such a way.
Abnormal could mean that the lab has messed up your results {happens a lot} but who ever told you that news was wrong to put it those words without explanation.
I would imagine if there had been a problem with your results you would be told why by a Dr or the very lest a nurse.
Receptionists are not allowed to give out this sort of information, especially not to follow it up with “if they will take your call” shocking treatment that you just don’t need when your already worried that something maybe going on.
I would phone back on Monday and ask for the practice manager and explain to them exactly your experience as you have done with us.
I really hope that there is no problem with your blood, please keep let us know the outcome.
Take care.
Hi cazada. As others have said, the attitude of your GP surgery is not acceptable and will do nothing to allay your fears. I do wish some of the receptionists would think first and then speak. Abnormal results is a very vague term and could mean almost anything - no one can guess what. However, sometimes blood has been incorrectly taken (not enough) or incorrectly labelled (wrong tube or wrong label).I
As @BeKind28 @Blue1958 and @RufusScamp say, chase up tomorrow by asking to speak to a nurse or the results service.
A recent blood test of mine was returned labelled "inadequate" - I was quite offended!!
Hope you have success tomorrow. X
Thank you all for your kind words, I have felt awful all weekend, and I will be contacting GP tomorrow for an explanation. What is worrying me more is I haven’t felt well since coming home from the hospital 6 weeks ago, cannot put finger on anything though …. Just feel off . Perhaps it is the meds after all. Will update when I know more xxx
Bit late for this time but if you get the NHS app you can look at your GP test results
Unfortunately not all practices allow access to results, my practice does not let me have access to my results ,consultations or letters, and I have tried writing to practice manager but hit a brick wall, just told my practice does not have this available.😤
NHS England is quite clear about this. GP practices are obligated to allow online access to your records and test results
Yes, and I wrote to the practice manager who told me that their practice does not share these with their patients, don’t know what else I can try.
Do you have the NHS app, the blood test results are normally put on there the same evening as the test .
You got the patient app and access allowed by the gp surgery. If so the results of the test should be there, it may give you an idea of the problem.
Omg, so I have ring GO and no appts whatsoever left, no one can talk to me. Ring tomorrow and try get an appointment … would appear that further blood tests are required due to the abnormal bloods last week!!!!! Cannot believe that they are tearing me like this. Waiting call back from receptionist after she has spoken to the doctor to see if anyone will ring me back today !!!
Words fail me re your GP practice! Are you in contact with specialist cardiac nurses? If so they may be able to help. Good luck!
