Hi, anyone have any experience of Fibromyalgia and possible effects of heart medications. Currently working with my GP to see if my statins are affecting me adversely. Looked up possible symptoms for FM and I seem to tick every box, although the medical profession don’t seem to know what it is or if it even exists.
Fibromyalgia.: Hi, anyone have any... - British Heart Fou...
Fibromyalgia.
Ah yes, fibro myalgia, one of those generic terms used in the medical profession for "I don't know"My OH was diagnosed with it years ago and given a bunch of pain meds, then left to get on with it.
Since then, and with a lot of record keeping by me, times, dates, what pains and where, effects etc, and a stroke of luck that she saw an optition that started a ball rolling which led to an mri scan on her brain, MS was diagnosed, then in 2014, she had a serious relapse that led to lots of tests including a muscle biopsy. That led to Limb Girdle Muscular Dystrophy (generic term myopathy 🙄) being diagnosed on top of MS.
She was extremely lucky that the neurologist (now a professor), she got is at the top of his game, took the time to read through all my notes and listens to what I say.
It seems a lot of people with FM are left to live with it
I have fibromyalgia along with lupus, which is a pretty common pairing. I also take simvastatin plus bisoprolol and felodipine. I don't think the statin affects my fibro symptoms at all - I have had the odd week off statins to check that out!The usual treatments for fibro are drugs like amitriptyline (which helps me sleep) or gabapentin (which I hated). With fibro you should be referred to a rheumatologist who might want to do some blood tests to rule out any autoimmune conditions.
Best wishes.
Hi, yes I have Fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue along with chronic recurrent, pericarditis. I take atorvastatin and I'm fine. However I was on Rosuvastatin which didn't suit me mainly because both the colchicine I take for peri and Rosuvastatin together can cause rhabdomyolosis and were causing a lot of muscular pain and deranged liver, pancreas and d-dimer readings. There are so many statins on the market to try and hopefully one will suit you.
I was diagnosed with fibro 30 years ago. One of the weird effects of it besides pain, is to make you ultra sensitive to odd things like scents , noises, food colourings and medications. I c an take certain brands of one medication but not others. My statin has to bemaed by one of just 3 companies as I react badly to others. My chemist is very helpful but can't always get the brands I need. I can't tolerate anything with yellow colouring. I have to have a branded pain killer not a generic one- even the hospital got that one wrong and gave me the generic one then wondered why I was ill.
