Fibromyalgia/Heart Attack

I have lived with Fibromyalgia for years, in Feb this year I had a heart attack, since then I have had the most intense burning pain in my back it feels like a hot poker boring into my left shoulder blade, I am finding I can do little or nothing and this pain will come on, which leaves me in a lot of chronic pain, it can ease if I sit or lie down, but I am unable to do less and less. Pain on walking has intensified also, I feel since the heart attack my fibro has become a lot worse, is this just a coincidence, anybody out there experienced something similar

Hello :-)

I cannot believe you have posted this

I am sat here suffering in silence and not said anything and yet here you are explaining so much how I am thinking and feeling like someone knew I needed to see someone else post about this

I to suffer with Fibro mine started after an operation I had nearly 20 years ago

I remember the first real bad flare up I ever had I thought I was having a heart attack back then

Over that 20 years I had a couple more flare up's but the pain I felt in between I found ways to manage it

When I had my first heart attack if it had not been for the crushing pain in the middle of my chest I could have quite easily thought it was another Fibro flare up

I went on to have 2 more heart attacks and a triple Bypass

While all these heart attacks were happening and going through the op my Fibro was lurking but did not flare up thank goodness

Last week though I woke pain in my legs I thought someone had hit me with a sledge hammer in my knee so bad I had to get up

I have been having lots of migraines , not sleeping well and arms aching

Like you I worry now I have had all these heart problems if I had been feeling like I do at the moment before I had my heart problems I would have just realised I was going through a flare up but now I question it all

I did contact my Doctor who had to remind me I suffer with Fibro and because I have recently been checked regarding my heart and because of everything I was describing as well as I have been going through a very stressful time diagnosed I was having Fibro flare up and not to panic

I sympathise with you so much as the pain we get with Fibro can feel like a heart attack but what I would do as it is the only thing you can do is check in with your Doctor

This is the first big flare up I have had since my heart attacks and op and yes it feels worse so much worse

I hope your pain eases soon and when you have spoken with your Doctor you will let us know how you have got on :-) x

Any serious medical event can cause a flare up of Fibro. I've had plenty in the 30 years I've had it. It's believed to be cause initially by a sudden severe shock, accident or illness. I've never been able to take anti inflammatories. In the first 10 years or so the one thing that helped was pushing through the pain to exercise ( gently)- just to keep moving like a bit of gardening. The less you do, the worse it is. Since then I've coped because I've been on opiates for more severe problems. One thing that does help is a TENS machine. I've been told mine is safe to use after a HA but to keep it away from the immediate area of the heart.
