Dear Henrietta35
One of the most common side effects there is with almost any drug, but Bisoprolol is really known for it.
You don't say how long you have been on it, as there is a bedding in time.
But I would contact your your GP/Heart Team as there are other drugs that do the same job, remember that the NHS has to try the one size fits all first ( luckily it works for the most)
Good luck and don’t suffer, there is help
I had very vivid dreams that occasionally woke me. Became quite tired over a period of 2-3 months
I had an ablation and was then able to come off them - thankfully!
I started on Bisoprolol early December 2021 , I really struggled to sleep for a couple of months but now seems to have settled down.
Yes
I am assuming you a new to bisoprolol. It’s usual to take it in the morning and the sleep disturbance usually reduces after a few months.
Hi, I take mine in the morning. No problems with sleeping. The tiredness and fatigue does come during afternoons. What disturbance are you referring to?
Insomnia? My understanding of Bisoprolol is that it slows your heart rate, lowers BP, by blocking adrenaline.
When do you take it?
I take Bisoprolol twice a day for the last 2 years. I had trouble waking in the night and getting back to sleep before and am still the same. I get to sleep straight away but wake about 2am. I usually have to take a minute dose of over the counter sleep aid.
No but I got a 20kg weight gain and kidney stones !!
I've had some troubles with the waking / not being able to get back to sleep as well - I've found it works for me taking it around 5pm, if I take it in the mornings then I'm exhausting in the afternoons - if too late than it effects my sleep more. Perhaps slowly tweak timings to see what works best for you...there isn't a specific 'ought too' time for bisoprolol according to the nurses and doctors I've spoken too. But any change is a change and worth waiting a while to little your body get used to it - good luck!
Yes. Vivid dreams. I drop off well but 1 - 1.5 hours later wake up and every couple of hours thereafter. Once awake I find it very difficult to drop off again. I know its the bisoprolol as after previous ablations Ive managed to stop taking it until AF returns again. This is even with low doses of bisoprolol 1.25mg. I also have a number of other unpleasant side effects including breathlessness, weight gain, fatigue, cold extremeties, etc. Unfortunatly it seems the only drug that gelps with AFib, A Flutter and fast heart beat
