Medications side effects continue

Hello everyone, I hope your weekend is going well. I am now nearing 6 months post CABG x 4 and still struggling with nausea and vomiting from some of the meds. I was changed to Clopidogrel from Ticegrelor, and am also on Nebivolol. I can’t tolerate the statin tablet so that is an ongoing conversation with the GP. Has anyone had any experience of stopping Clopidogrel after 6 months or before the standard 12 months please? Just after advice please. Thanks, as ever, Judi

Hi heyjude, sorry to hear you are still struggling with side effects. Can't offer any help re stopping clopidigrel early, I managed the standard 12 months ok, just looked like a boxer's punchbag!However, wondered if you or your GP had looked at Ezetimibe or Colesevelam as an alternative to standard statins. They work in a slightly different way and so may help with your issues. I was put on these as my liver took a strong dislike to atorvastatin. Really hope you have some success soon. Best wishes x

I was prescribed Ezetimibe when I discovered that I could not tolerate Atorvastatin, Pravastatin or Simvastatin. Following tests I found out that it had zero effect on my cholesterol, probably as it is supposed to be taken in conjunction with a statin. Thankfully after a short bedding in period (headaches and some leg aches), I was able to take Rosuvastatin on alternate days. I'm now on a 10mg daily dose with no issues. I was surprised to find how effective it is.

[Qualipop]

I was also changed from ticagrelor to clopidogrel and it was stopped after 6 months. I was getting really bad persistent stomach pain so something had to go and my GP preferred to keep me on aspirin saying they know far more about any possible side effects from aspirin than they do about clopidogrel.However I had no problems stopping it and no ill effects.

[Crochetwoman]

Hi, I was only prescribed Clopidogrel for 6 months after my sudden heart attack and stent in 2018. It was what the surgeon had written on my notes. I’ve read other people got 6 months too. I’m still here with no problem from my stent. Guess there must be a criteria stating what situation/ patient gets how long?

Aspirin 75mg will be with me forever. I take gastro resistant ones and have no problem. Losartan for b/p and Ivabradine for my heart rate.

Hi I was changed to Prasugrel instead of Clopedagrel after last angiogram. I also cannot tolerate statins so was put on a fornightly injection pen of Praluent. no bad side effects and cholesterol of 2.1 it is expensive but its better than joint pain. Hope this helps.

The injections are on the NHS my cardiologist recommended it but a specialized blood consultant prescribes them they get delivered once a month by company called healthcare at home. The prasugrel blood thinner doesn't cause cause me any side effects that I can tell but I think that is consultant as well but supplied by normal pharmacy
