Unsteady on feet and getting pressure headaches-do you think it is Bisoprolol?

HI, I had a stent fitted the beginning of December and was put on Ramipril, Bisoprolol, Isosorbide Mononitrate, Atorvastatin, Clopidogrel & Aspirin (and Lansoprazole for reflux).

In the last 3 weeks or so I have started to feel unsteady on my feet. This tends to go away if I walk for a few minutes, but gets worse through the day. I have used a blood pressure monitor soon after an unsteady spell, and I often have low heart rate (50 or so) but high blood pressure (160/90 not unusual, sometimes higher). GP thought it might be the Bisoprolol and cut the dose from 2.5 mg to 1.25 mg. About half a day after this, I felt very tense and had headaches and trouble sleeping, and heart rate seemed to go right up. Because of this went back up to 2.5 mg Bisoprolol, after a couple of days, but wondered now if I should have stuck with the 1.25 mg, as unsteadiness is hanging around.

Also getting headaches and slight ringing in ears, again often later in day. I am a long term migraine sufferer so have had ringing in ears before, but not for this long.

Maybe the depressed heart rate is driving the unsteadiness and high blood pressure, as it can't go up to match the exertion level when I get up and do things? Wonder what you all think and what your experience has been.

I am getting a MRI to check there is nothing else happening in the head just to be sure as well.

Wouldn't your best bet be to get qualified medical advice. Do it soon and very good luck

Thanks will do.

Speak to your GP or Consultant I asked to reduce mine due to dizziness and running nose the Heart failure Nurse was very helpful on the phone, instead of taking a dose morning and evening I was advised to take both doses at night and I’m fine but that’s just me I would never stop a medication without professional advice.

Hi, I had two stents fitted 5 years ago and came out of hospital with a cocktail of medication just like you. I had instances when I couldn't support my body weight and had to lay down no matter where I was. After about an hour it cleared and everything was back to normal. I approached my GP who's response was "What do you expect me to do". Reading all the medications information leaflets I found one that had this side affect, so stopped it. All incidents ceased. It appears I am unable to tolerate anticoagulants in any form. Cardiologist reaction: If I don't take anticoagulants I don't get any further support. Every time I have a paroxysmal af incident it results in me passing urine urgently, frequently and in quantity from 2 hours to 5 hours. Cardiologist doesn't want to know like GP. Sometimes your on your own. Good luck.

Have you thought of changing your health care team?

I weaned myself off Metroprolol (which must be a cousin of Bisoprolol) because of dizzy spells. My BP plunged an hour or so after I took it and I was having trouble walking my dog without feeling faint! I eventually had to go back on Metoprolol and my doctor suggested that I take it at night before going to bed. That has completely solved the problem.
