Been told to stop Bisoprolol before stress test, worried how safe this is

I am having a stress test this coming Tuesday for pains I am getting on exercise. I am on on Bisoprolol 1.25 mg a day, and have been told to stop for 48 hours before. Very nervous about this as I felt quite bad for 2-3 days when I halved the dose from 2.5 mg to 1.25 mg-felt very hyped up, blood pressure and heart rate were high.

Would appreciate some confirmation that just stopping abruptly for 2 days is OK-have any of you done similar?

Thanks

Dave

Hello :-)

It is very normal that they ask you to stop certain meds before you have these tests and sometimes other tests to

It will not harm you for the length of time you stop them but you need to stop them or there would be no point and they would maybe not do the stress test

You will be ok maybe you might have to feel hyped up a few days but you can do it the test though needs to be done so keep telling yourself that when you feel bad

Let us know how you get on :-) x

Hi Dave. I did exactly the same the saame last year. Had to stop 2.5mg for 72 hours. I took mine to the hospital with me. Once I'd completed the stress test they said I could carry on taking it. Only symptom of withdrawal in those 3 days was an annoying pain across my shoulders for some reason.

Good luck and take care

I have a stress test next week but I have been told to continue taking the Bisoprolol. Different hospitals use take different views on it. I did call to double check after seeing the information on the BHF website.

We're obviously all different but I recently stopped taking Bisoprolol, 1.25mg, and have had no negative effects at all. I'd be surprised if you had issues you're on the lowest dose. Good luck 👍🙂

There are certainly withdrawal symptoms for bisoprolol. That's why my cardiologist told me to reduce from 2.5 gradually. I went from 2.5 to 1.25 then I tried to halve the 1.25 pill, without much success, so I stopped. I did not notice much difference between 1.25 and none physically. My resting heart rate did go up from 65-70 to 70-75.

That is me not you. We are all different, but 1.25 is a pretty low dose. Also the pains you are getting are on exercising. Probably best not to do any before the stress test. Don't worry about the stress test, you will be carefully monitored

Hope it goes well.

Thanks for all the help and support. I have had to put the stress test off a bit, but I am less apprehensive about doing it now.
