Hi.

Can anyone let me know if it’s normal to still have a numb chest area 8months after double bypass? Both chest sides equally numb to touch but feeling internal discomfort if that makes sense.

Tia

It appears from what I’ve been reading here since October 19 when I had my bypass that we all recover differently. The best advice I can give you is to get in touch with the Cardio Rehab team in your area or phone the BHF support line who can then usually give you the best answers. My rehab team have been brilliant.

Good advice thank you

Hello :-)

I am 5 months after a triple Bypass

I can still feel numbness sometimes wake up feeling it to

I mentioned it to my Consultant and they explained all the nerves as they have you opened up need time to heal and it can take as long as 18 months before they fully do

I would talk to your Rehab Nurse if you have one or as said phone the BHF support line but I get this to and have been told it is normal :-) x

I’m 18 month since a quadruple bypass and can confirm the healing process takes a long time and I’m sure everyone is different.

Your body has been through a lot and it needs time to heal. I remember a lot of gradual changes, I had very little sensation in my chest but some of that has come back. I still have no sensation around the scar on my leg, but that’s okay, it just part of what you have been through and come through.

If you’re concerned you should definitely seek reassurance from medical professionals and the cardiac nurses are the most experienced in what is and isn’t okay from the point of view of recovery.

Hope this helps to put your mind at rest.

Andy

P.S. did they use your Mammary arteries? They used mine and the numbness was the for a long time

I thought I had answered this, I think this is a common question.

I had my bypass in 2017 and my chest area around the scar was numb for over a year, 8 months is nothing to worry about.

Nearly 5 years later and there are still patches on numbness.
