No Caffeine for 24hrs

Started this morning no caffeine for 24hrs before a cardiac stress MRI tomorrow.

I note it is on the appointment. It is Vital NO Caffeine is in Bold Print, anyone know the answer to why ??? It says take all medication as normal, my meds I take at 8am with an MRI at 10 so is it a reaction just to Caffeine with the drug used to increase Heart Output ??

Regards

Dear Prada47

Correct, that’s what I was told by the technician doing the test.

They injected me with a dose of the drug and it did a very mild upping of the heart beat, the technician asked if I had coffee that morning, I told them no but you know when you feel as if they think you have lied to them { maybe just me } and truly I had followed all instructions like a good boy.

Well they pumped more of the stuff in and believe me you will feel it when it works, but it’s short lived and the knowledge gained by the test is invaluable to your ongoing treatment.

I’m back on the test again on the 18th .

Take care

I once went without caffeine for 24 hours when I volunteered for a research project. It was not pleasant. 30 years on, I still remember the relief of being given caffeine tablets. It is a powerful drug, in tea, coffee and chocolate as well as some soft drinks.

Best of luck with the test, but do follow instructions for the best outcome.

Thanks for reply

Oh I will follow the guidance 100%

This is the 3rd MRI I was just wondering about the Caffeine effect, it must be quite an impact. The reason for the question is I will be taking a 10mg Bisoprolol along with other meds Isosorbide Entresto Aspirin etc just90 mins before the MRI I thought that would have a bigger impact than Caffeine !!!

Thanks

Best of luck. I am on Entresto and Bisoprolol + others, with no obvious side-effects.

Hi Rufus I am also lucky no side effects , Cardio wants to look at why breathless for no apparent reason and I mean breathless !!! Already had bypass and stents , on the letter to my GP he said need an MRI to guide further interventions !!!

Tomorrow I will drive past the " Rufus Stone " now that is a good story lol

I've had a few of these. I try to schedule for early morning, but if the test is in mid-afternoon I have a half cup (literally, 3 oz) of coffee early to stave off caffeine headache. ;)

I had a cardiac nuclear stress test yesterday. No caffeine ordered including decaffeinated tea/coffee but more important for me no chocolate! That was tough. I assumed it is because caffeine is a stimulant and they want to see what your heart is like without any artificial help getting in the way. Agree it's a bit odd that we are allowed to take our meds.

Years ago I shared coffee buying with 2 colleagues. We drank quite a lot of the stuff daily. Unbeknown to us one colleague brought in decaffeinated coffee, the 2 of us began to have quite severe headaches and fatigue, it took us several days to get to the bottom of the problem, we were missing our usual cafine hits, she was banned from buying decaff ever again for the office.
