Stress MRI (CMR)

Good evening,

I have a question, before I had a stress echo I had to stop heart meds for a 48 hour period ( beta blockers etc).

However, my invite to my stress MRI does not say that it only says don’t have caffeine 24 hours beforehand.

Is this normal procedure? Can I still take my 29 million pills as usual before the test.

Thanks you in advance

Hi Deano. I had one last year and took my tablets as normal. There was nothing in the letter to say otherwise. The only thing they said was no caffeine tea/coffee/soft drinks/ nothing like chilli either.

If in doubt phone the department to make sure. Hope it all goes well for you. Take care. Zena

Hi

My Mum had one last week

It was take meds as normal and take any blood presure meds with her as may be needed to lower blood presure according to readings ;

No caffeine on the day of MRI before having it done .

Hi Deano

I took all my meds as usual.

No tea, chocolate etc for 24 hours was tough.

Zena's suggestion of ringing the department is a good one.

in reply toMilkfairy

What..... no chocolate 🍫 there’s no mention of not eating chocolate for 24 hours. That’s inhumane.

Chocolate contains caffeine 😳

It also contains ‘love’

I took my pills as normal and as you say, no caffeine. Apparently caffeine is an antidote to the drug they use to speed the heart up. Hence if you take caffeine the mri test will not work!!

I have had 3 and I was never told to not take any of my meds..only to fast? I kind of get it though..they want to see your heart under stress and meds might mask it to some degree..?

Yes carry on with your medsas normal. Don't have caffeine drinks or any chocolate as it affects your heart rhythm.

Hope all goes well for you.

I've had an MRI and Stress test in last couple of months. I was told the same as you, stop beta blockers 48 hours before stress test and avoid caffeine. For MRI drugs as normal but avoid caffeine the day of the test.

Hiya!

I had a stress MRI in August

You should take your tablets as normal unless it states in the letter you have received

They only ask you to stop drinking any caffeine based products like tea, coffee and any soft drinks etc

Good luck!
