Hi I'm new here just recently being diagnosed with heart failure, gobsmacked sou ds terminal ! Assured to certain degree, it isn't ( yet ). Hard to take it all in. Last year during lock down got diagnosed with diabetes 3c ( treated similar to type 2 and more understood ) All of this on top of long term pancreatitus. Writing this makes me sound like the walking dead, sorry. Selfishly what I'm really looking for now is a travel insurance company that will take these ailments into consideration and allow me to travel with out the insurance costing more than the holiday. Any suggestions?

You are welcome :-) x

Hello and welcome Snookergoer,

Sorry to say but your travel insurance will cost you more , that is the nature of the beast .

I’ve got a bank card that covers travel insurance along with other things and I was lucky that they will cover me at no extra cost , maybe something to look into ?

Your humour will help you get through your medical problems and believe me I have met many of the living dead that have not had a thing wrong with them !

Take care I really hope that you can draw from here the amount of support you need, you are not alone and I for one are looking forward to knowing you as your journey continues.

Hi, may I ask what bank you are with that offers insurance inclusive? Thanks

in reply to Madeira19

Hello Madeira19

It’s Lloyds bank but you have to upgrade your account to I believe it’s called platinum, then you have car cover, phone cover etc.

hope that helps

That's strange. We've had the same with Lloyds for a long time but they refused to cover me for heart failure.

in reply to MDR1

Mmmmmmmm I will check just in case I’m wrong, but I sent them my discharge letter that they asked for, tut another worry when and if my travel season ever starts again !

Sorry! I haven't contacted them since I was first diagnosed so maybe after treatment they might put me back on.

in reply to MDR1

Let’s hope so for the both of us ! Take care

Other banks do similar but if you are over 70 there is an additional charge and also for medical conditions. I had to pay extra premium for 12 months following gall bladder surgery and the same following my wife’s hip replacement. The extra for my stents will be permanent though.

Thank you for that, I didn’t know those facts, I’m still a boy at 63 ! Lol take care

Hello and welcomeSorry to hear about the issues you are facing and hope you manage to get away.

Generally travel insurance will cost more and its really important to list all of your conditions. Its worth trying staysure as the medical questions are online and the quotes seem reasonable. That's what I'm using for annual travel insurance. If going for an annual policy also worth avoiding insuring for certain countries (USA, Caribbean) if you ate not going as these can add significantly to the premium.

Looking for annual cover also. Would not like to look for cover every holiday. Thank you.

Sure Call are good but they aren't cheap. Cost me £500 for 3 weeks in Canada. May well be more now due to the current global climate...

Hello Snookergoer. I went on the comparisons sites to get prices and then put your health conditions in the ones you like. And then ring them up and speak to someone personally about medical and explain your conditions. Some problems that you may not have had a problem with for 3 years. They won't be bothered about. But it's best to tell them. I had problems with my back in the past and they diagnosed osteoarthritis. But because no treatment for over 3 years not bothered about it. In the meantime just relax and watch the Snooker it starts today. Take care Brian

Hi,I know how you feel. I was recently diagnosed with this in Dec 21.I was devastated, and went from a fairly healthy 67year old who loved to cycle to someone who could barely walk up a flight of stairs.I was in so much shock ,I didn't hear what was being said to me.However, although I have a bit of a reaction to my new meds, mainly the water pill...I was just as stunned at the turnaround...the meds really help...I can do stuff and not feel out of breath. So give the meds a chance, they may have to be tweaked ...and just as important...give yourself a chance...all the very best.

Hi Snookergoer and welcome to the forum. The term heart failure covers many conditions but just means your heart is not as strong as it used to be. I was diagnosed 8 years ago after a heart attack and cardiac arrest and recovered to carry on with a fairly normal lifestyle. I have used Staysure a few times since as well as others but Staysure appear to be competitive on price at the moment. It is worth a quote for single trip insurance and I have found that two single trip insurances in a year can be cheaper than the annual quote. Did this for two trips last year. It all depends on where you are going and how often. There were also at last attempt two levels of quote for travel in Europe, the cheaper one excluding some countries which attract a higher premium due to the number of claims associated with those countries. Worth reading the small print and take the cheaper option if your destination is covered.
