Hello :-)

Do you think that because your Doctor has stopped this med that you knew at the time was helping you that some of how you are feeling maybe mind over matter as we say

I am a big believer that when we start or come of a medication that we can get side effects but if you continue to feel this way then I would speak with your Doctor and I am sure they will have some answers to help :-) x

Hi, maybe some logic there, I have tried deep breathing in the mornings when I feel bad and relaxation and it does help sometimes, I am happy to be off metoprolol and BP is now best it has been for several years.

Hello :-)

Try and keep the thought that you have stopped the med if you can out your mind and just focus on how good your blood pressure is now so you must be on the right medications plus Doctors will not take you of something unless they think it will no longer help you :-) x

Dear Margie21

Hello to you, well I can’t answer your question on a personal level as I have never used that drug.

But reading your profile it appears that you have been on this medication for a long time, first Atenolol then Metoprolol.

I would imagine that stopping any long time use of a drug will have some form of side effect { I am not medically trained } surely a quick call to your surgery should confirm this?

Then of course there is the other side that BeKind28 has put so well in her post to you or it could be the combination of the two.

I hope that we can at the very lest be a support for you in this worrying time,

Take care

Hi thank you for your reply and advice, I was fine on Atenolol (for years in fact until no longer available for me, only with sunset yellow coating that I was allergic to) GP patiently tried other medications until I tried Metoprolol !! it suited at first and then I had numerous side effects and gradually with GP advice I gradually weaned off them. I expect my GP not to be unduly worried because my BP is now okay after years of taking meds for high BP. So maybe my symptoms are nothing to do with coming off Metroprolol ??? If no better in few weeks time I will consult my GP.

Dear Margie21

I think that you are doing so well, and I agree with you if you can wait a little while it would probably point to something else rather than the Metroprolol.

I hope what ever it is that it proves to be minor and you can get back to a normalise life.

Take care

I broke out in a horrible rash from metoprolol after two weeks. But no withdrawals. I was happy to get off. On 5 mg bisoprolol now and no problems.

Thank you for your reply....I didn't have rash just other awful side effects, I have read a lot about metoprolol and side effects and wish I had never been put on them. Hope you all okay now. 👍

Metoprolol is one of those medications that you are not supposed to stop cold turkey. The first time I came off it it too me about three weeks to keep gradually reducing the dose.

Hi, thank you for your reply, I too had to reduce it gradually and had to send my GP my BP readings for 2 weeks......the problems I have now are very similar to when I was taking Metoprolol, so not sure why??? I was on Atenolol for a long time before this so maybe it is all down to that as well.....funny thing is my BP has been good, a little low at times and sometimes bit high but mainly within normal range, if no better will see my GP for further advice. 👍

It appears that you were not taking Metoprolol for blood pressure then if your BP is normal. Sometimes beta blockers are prescribed for anxiety. Sometimes people take them when they have to make a speech because it makes them less nervous (my former cardiologist told me this). If it was prescribed for anxiety then your symptoms kind of make some sense.

I was on Metoprolol for Blood Pressure and originally on Atenolol, since stopping all BP medication few months ago my BP readings are normal for my age sometimes low and sometimes high but GP is quite happy about it, I was always told it few was for BP.....maybe the problems I have now are nothing to do with BP and are symptons of anxiety ??? I have had a lot of problems for several years caused by stress and ongoing so maybe you have just hit the nail on the head..will have to talk to my GP about it, thank you for your help.👍
