I suspect the lack of replies is indicative of just how many of us have had vital procedures postponed and the worry they'll let off a little or more steam at the frustration and fear the reason is almost always down to Covid pressures. I empathise and sympathise.

For some the postponements have been owing to physical condition at the time of the postponement. I know of at least one member here who had a procedure postponed as they were found to be too unwell to go forward.

As for how long the wait was after a postponement, it seems to vary depending on the trust and the reason the member was scheduled for the procedure - there have been a few who've only had a few weeks to wait for a rebooking but many have waited months and some are still waiting.

Hi, I've been waiting for a cardiac MRI for 3 months now and been told it will be January or February at least. In the meantime though my cardiologist has rung me twice, the Cardiology department where I am on the elective surgery list for my mitral valve repair have rung to see how I am and discuss my symptoms and the GP surgery sent 2 text messages and rang me to book a follow up blood test (that I had already booked via the NHS app!). I have also been booked for another echocardiogram at the end of the month. All in all I think I am very lucky and getting great treatment. I have another appointment with my surgeon in January so I guess I will find out how the waiting list is going then. I was told 3 to 4 months from mid November. 😀

Have you had surgery postponed?

There is no definitive answer to your question.....I had surgery delayed earlier this year due to three people being blue lighted into the cardiac unit suffering from cardiac arrest on the day my surgery had initially been planned for, I was delayed by 24 hours.

If your surgery is not deemed to be vital the wait could be anything from days to weeks to months.

Our son has been waiting for over 12 months for surgery, non life threatening but definitely pain relieving and at the moment he has no idea when he will receive it, he just has a bag packed and is ready to drop everything on receipt of a phone call.

Think the answer to that is how long is a piece of string. You don’t say why your surgery was cancelled. Shortage of ICU beds seems one that is happening a lot.

Maybe keep your hospital bag packed you never know.

You probably won't like my answer, but I had my AVR op postponed five times before I actually got my op. Although it was extremely frustrating at the time as both my husband and I had to keep rearranging things with our respective employers, the way I coped was to look at it that at least I was in a better position than the person who had taken my slot/bed.

Hopefully you won't have to wait too long.

Hello, Frustrating isn’t an adequate word. I got to my third date. Was on the trolley all gowned up and waiting to go to theatre after a 2hr wait I was told it was cancelled. Although disappointed how can you complain when some poor soul has come in as an emergency. I got up, dressed and went home. My bypass was done exactly 1 week later. All went well and I was home again in 5 days. I know it can be stressful but you’re on the list and it will happen. Try to stay positive. Good luck.
