The uncomfortable truth is that most of us on this forum are at greater risk of strokes and heart attacks, so our insurance premiums need to reflect the potential cost of repatriation or emergency medical aid. Indeed I personally wouldn't trust a bargain basement travel insurance quote, if they're too cheap it's likely they're excluding the very help that we might need the most!

Having said that there are a few companies that regularly get recommendations for substantial cover at a fair price (although they're still not cheap). Staysure Insurance, Holidays Extras Insurance, and Saga Insurance are all worth looking at.

If you're a regular traveller I've found a twelve month insurance offers far better value than a per trip policy. Also, if you're off on a cruise, check the cruise company doesn't have special requirements or offer free/subsidised insurance, Cunard for example insist on a minimum £2m repatriation limit, which reflects the kind of extraordinary costs involved in helicoptering off a stroke/heart attack victim when the ship is many miles off shore!

Good luck and happy holidays!

I recommend StaySure and AllClear. On some cheaper policies you must read the small print very carefully. I have seen policies with very limited cover on existing medical conditions.

If you are undergoing investigation (e.g. awaiting an angiogram) or awaiting treatment (e.g. valve replacement) insurance may be impossible.

Insurance 4 Medical are reasonable but you will pay probably 4 time more than the standard rate. Never had to use i,t so cannot tell you If they are any good

I have insurance as part of my bank account (Barclays) I informed them about the heart attack and they asked a lot of questions about the medication, severity and treatment. They were happy to give me full cover once I was off ticagrelor and had a clear first year checkup.

That’s really interesting as I’m also with Barclays but following my HA they wouldn’t cover any heart related problems nor my diverticular disease. Yet they’ll cover all my husbands ailments - it’s my account!

Hello. I have just been quoted over 500 quid for a 2 month holiday to Spain by All Clear. With only 3 conditions. They eventually by making adjustments got it down to 350... 2 years ago I paid 440 quid for a yearly policy for 2 people. Try travel supermarket. And other comparison sites
