My understanding is that if you’re already BSAC (or PADI) qualified, you’ll need a medical to determine if you can dive again, possibly yearly if you’re cleared and you wish to continue diving over the long term. Similarly, if you’re not yet qualified, you’ll definitely need a medical to establish whether or not you’re able to continue. There are also restrictions relating to underlying medical conditions such as needing to dive with an experienced buddy, for example. Lots of pretty definitive detail available at the UK Diving Medical Committee site here:
Thanks for that info,i am padi qualified to advanced standard and i have had a dive medical which recomended doing no decompression dives.just wanted some extra reassurance.
I think it depends on whether you are planning simple, shallow, warm water diving or something more demanding and technical. It also depends on your general fitness. For example, can you swim a couple of hundred metres without fins? I'd be inclined to do an easy intro dive to start with and see how you feel and build up slowly. Don't just assume you can do everything you did before.
If the Medical advises no de-compression dives, would i be right in think that will limit you to depths of 10m? Remember having to have medicals because I was diagnosed with Asthma. Advanced PADI like you, I had to have the ability to show that letter at every dive - but I hope you get back diving. Jaqueline Cousteau was good, but seeing marine life in the flesh is just second to none 👍
I think i will need to stick to 10 m dives but dive medical doctor suggested i could also try diving with trimix which should be ok to enable deeper dives,Thanks to all those that have replied.
Ah, Trimix - mmm, hadn’t thought of that - good luck with your diving - all pics welcome 👍
