Just thought I’d offer some good news. In 2016 on the day I retired at 64 I decided to do my bit for Great Ormond Street Hospital and as I like Cycling thought I would cycle around the 4700 miles of our coastline of Britain starting from blackpool. At the time I was on a list for a replacement hip. I couldn’t walk very well but Cycling was ok. I rode the 1000 to Torquay. Came home had hip op, then a few months later went back and carried on. 2200 miles on near Wick I had a heart attack. Fortunately a very mild one. But docs said I was two stone over weight. So when I left hospital I joined slimming world then 6 weeks later carried on bike ride back to blackpool. I did some research and found my granddad, father and only brother died of h/a just before there 70th birthday…….., I was 70 yesterday. I’ve been at my sw target weight of 12st 7lb for three and half years. I raised £500. It took me 119 pedalling days over course of 2 years. Stay slim and healthy. Tony

Maybe the first mild HA saved you life. I too have just turned 70 and had mine 2 years ago, I also lost weight, but accidentally, by getting on a vegan diet. I dropped from 86kg to 66kg in a month and looked awful, so got some weights and walked, cycled, thought not in your class and got back into some sort of shape. I have now leveled out at 72kg, eat very well, with no processed food, only olive oil (from my garden) and good psychology. Like you my HA was mild and also saved my life. Unlike you I am inherently lazy, so have to strive to exercise, but all the cycling is beyond me, so well done and keep it up and thanks for sharing you positive story, it is what this forum desperately needs.

Nice to hear from you all, and your story Dave Spice. I set myself a physical challenge each year near my birthday. I cycle one mile for each year of my life. I’ve done this each year since my H/a in 2017, I’m not sure if I’ll still be doing that in 30 years time at 100…………… but watch this space😊
