Hi everyone. I am new here. My story began approx 2 years ago when I woke up not being able to breath. I was taken to the great PAPWORTH hospital in Cambridge. After tests I was told that I had to have open heart surgery to replace my Mitral valve. This was done with pigs tissue making up the new valve. It took a while to recover as I had AF after the op but I am now completely well and walk nearly every day for about 2/3 miles with my new dog so for anyone out there who is about to face open heart surgery don’t be worried you will come through it and feel great.

Hi Maderia
What a wonderfully positive morning post! I’m so glad you feel well now.
It’s quite a journey isn’t it? Not easy at all.
I, like you, feel the buzz every day of being well again. Yes we have meds to take and bear the scars of what’s happened mentally and physically but, Hey!! We are still here and still kicking! 💪
Hello Maderia,
Welcome to the forum, I am 5 years on from my Aortic valve and bypass. So pleased you are feeling so well, as I have said many times before on the forum, I am very grateful to the medical team that gave me my life back.
As UnderMilkWood says it can be quite a journey this mended heart road we are travelling 😂 we are the lucky ones we have been given a second chance to live our lives.
Keep well and walking your dog.
Best wishes Pauline
