Update for 5th valve replacement surgery

Well, I’m through the worst and now back on the high dependency ward. Have a few wound issues as it wouldn’t stop bleeding which meant a couple of blood transfusions but they were able to go in through my side so that was a relief. Woke up only 3 hours after the surgery with minimal pain. Had chest drains out today, 2 out of the 3 coming our perfectly but one was a bit tricky and had to be removed by a doctor. Sorry to say but that bit hurt! However, despite the complexity of the surgery, I was told it went very well. So, have been spreading the word around the ward about this website and how useful It can be to share experiences. So, hopefully, anyone waiting for further surgeries can take heart from my positive experience. Thanks everyone for all of your messages of support xx

I'm so glad it went well, and they were able to do it by the less invasive method. Sorry about the bleeding :( You've gone through so much over the years, you must be very brave . Good idea to spread the word about this place. Take care xx

Oh bless you love... I've been moved to the actual ward now. Just walked downstairs and gone outside... I would echo what you say that these groups are a bloody lifesaver indeed.

Congratulations! So pleased to hear that all went well and you are back on high dependency. You must also be relieved. How long before you can get up and begin the long haul back to home? Did think about you earlier in the week and wondered how things had gone. That hospital is wonderful and the staff all so caring. When you can, pop downstairs to the ground floor and have a hot chocolate for me!

Hi Frances. Might be a little while yet as my AF returned in the night so don’t think I’ll be walking anywhere again today. Might have the save the hot chocolate for the weekend!

I had AF after my op, wasn't prepared for it at all so was a horrible surprise. Wishing you all the best.

Well done - you’re right the worst is over now - onwards and upwards as they say! I was in HDU for rather longer than expected after my AVR and I didn’t sleep a wink - it’s so busy but at least you are reassured by constant medical attention. We are all thinking of you! Stay strong. Sue X🙏

Excellent news, just hoping this will be your last time for surgery. You are an extremely brave and amazing person. I wish you well in your recovery and that goes as successfully as the surgery seems to ahve gone.
