Myocarditis
Hello,
Myocarditis is an inflammation of the heart muscle often caused by a viral infection.
Overtime it usually improves.
Angina is caused by a lack of blood supply to the heart muscle usually due to a blocked artery, other causes are Microvascular dysfunction or vasospastic angina.
A perfusion MRI can diagnose myocarditis and some types of Microvascular dysfunction a common cause of Microvascular angina.
Hopefully your Cardiac MRI will help your Cardiologist to decide what's causing your symptoms.
It is possible to have both myocarditis and angina. I have had myocarditis in the past however still have angina.
Thanks for taking the time to reply the reason I asked about myocarditis is originally they where going to give another angiogram but then decided against it because the one I had the previous year along with the stress echo was ok so that got me thinking with my sis suffering it I might be as well hope that makes sense best wishes to you .
Hi, I just wanted to let you know I have had an acute bout of myocarditis and no angina problems at all. 3 years on & my heart remains enlarged with scarring, various issues with it now but not angina. We are all different but thats my experience. Hi Treeclimber62 - i had angina symptoms with myocarditis. i don't know technically speaking if it was angina, but the symptoms were essentially the same: burning, pressure, tightness, squeezing. those angina like symptoms would often last 10-20-even 30 minutes, and at times would have episodes off and on throughout the day. the myocarditis was also causing arrythmias, slow and fast beats, and exhaustion. the dr explained that my heart would heal up on its own, but that it would take 1-2 years. i don't think all cases of myocarditis are that drawn out. but it really did take about that long. it was very important to walk every day, though some days i didn't have the energy. and if pain was excessive, i couldn't. it was very disruptive and unpredictable. but, there is a light at the end of the tunnel! my dr had told me there wouldn't be permanent damage - and there isn't. the inflammation is now gone. the exhaustion is gone. be patient, rest, rest, rest. you will need to alter your routines and not get down on yourself. it's a serious condition and w/o the proper rest and limited physical activity, you could well cause damage. i'm really grateful to have had the right doctor and the right advice.
