If I have been diagnosed with pad of both legs 6 months after HT and 4 stents in heart arteries should I stop taking Ticagrelor now after 12 months as I’ve reached 12 months

Ticagrelor
Hello
Normally you are on this Drug 12 months and then stop but there could be a reason they want you on it longer
I would not stop it without asking your Doctor , just give them a quick call I am sure they will confirm if it is safe now for you to stop it x
Hello and welcome to the forum!
I was diagnosed with PAD (Peripheral Arterial Disease) in 2010 (diabetes related) and had a quadruple bypass in 2018. Last year I had a BKA (below knee amputation) to the left.
Before the amputation my "heartie" drugs were Lisinopril, Bisoporol, Atorvastatin and Aspirin. Afterwards Clopidogrel (an anri-platlet) was added to minimise the risk of a limb threatening clot to the right. Because of the PAD you may be on Ticagrelor or an alternative for life. The issue I have is communication between Vascular and Cardiology. Make sure whoever you speak to is fully aware of both conditions.
NOt without your doctor's agreement. IT is normal to stop after 12 months but you need to ask. You mayhave other reasons for staying on it.
Hi
Welcome. I think Michael JH is absolutely right about making sure your vascular and cardiac team are in contact - may take some chasing.
Each one should be cc’d on your letters.
I have significant PAD and now take Rivaroxaban. I do read on this group that this type of medication is often prescribed for a limited period for cardiac patients but for me my PAD is not going away nor is the risk of serious outcomes. I am happy to take it if it helps.
Ask both cardiac and vascular drs what to do next. If you are keen to come off it- wait until you have the answer from both teams- not just the one who gives you the answer you want to hear
Take care. Keep on walking!
