Advise on Tests

Hi guys,

BRIEF SUMMARY. 1 year ago aged 44 diagnosed with early cirrhosis due to alcohol and drug issues (roughly 10 years). High blood press, high cholesterol and high triglycerides, borderline diabetes and over weight.

1 year later no alcohol or misuse of drugs. Obliviously no change in cirrhosis (but good liver function) lost 3 stone, blood pressure normal, cholesterol and triglycerides have come down to nearly normal range. Normal ECG. On no medication accept sertraline.

QUESTION. Should I go private for a full heart check that includes exercise treadmill test, heart ultrasound and CT heart scan (coronary calcium score test)? If you think only one of these or all these tests (or maybe none) is applicable please say.

With thanks

James

Do you have regular check-ups as if so these should cover what you are asking, and it sounds as if you have made a lot of vital life style changes. Or can you make an appointment with your GP as I don't think anybody here is qualified to give that kind of advice. Or you could make an appointment with a cardiologist for initial assessment and s/he would advice on any other tests you might need.

Hi James, I don't know whether you should get those tests or not, but I want to congratulate you on the amazing things you've achieved, wow well done 👏 If you think the tests would help you going forwards, then go for it/them 😊

Hi James, congratulations on the progress you have made over the past year. Chat to your GP about whether you really need these tests, only you know how your body is feeling now. You say your ECG is normal, so are you wanting these extra tests for your own peace of mind rather than some actual medical need?

yes. for peace of mind

Then I would go ahead and pay for them because I am not sure whether the NHS would agree to giving you tests for that reason.
