Hello and welcome to the forum!

Please bear in mind I am not medically qualified just a patient!

I have looked at your other post today and you have CKD Stage 2. A little while ago I replied to Bishop1 about this, and you can read the reply here.

healthunlocked.com/bhf/post...

The Ramapril is helping to reduce your BP and also protecting your kidneys.

Your total cholesterol should be lower, at least 5.0 or below and ideally 4.0 or below. Why are you unsure about taking a statin. There are about five main ones and if one doesn't suit you can try a different type and/or dose. Unfortunately, there is a serious amount of rubbish about on the internet!

hi Michael

thank you for your reply. I have always had an idea that I had KD as my small kidneys don't work the best. No doctor has ever said it and even said my function isn't that low recently.

what has made me look into my results more is the awful pain in bothy my elbows I have had for months now (not tennis elbow)

Here are my blood results . As for Statins everyone I mention them to say oooo you don't want to start on those.

Were 'all those people' on Dr google? He is a menace! What is your definition of a healthy lifestyle? Without knowing your diet, weight exercise regime etc it is difficult to comment.

take the tablets. Easy enough to change or stop if they cause problems. Statins are the only reliable and effective way of significantly reducing cholesterol. Other methods have minimal effect in comparison.

Hi,

If your trigs were that high initially, they were high for some time before the first test.

High trigs increase your risk of pancreatitis and cardiovascular disease.

I was unsure about statins and didn’t take them (I wasn’t offered them but I should have pushed for them).

I wish I had as I am now a person with premature cardiovascular disease.

Hi Blue

The merits of using Statins to reduce LDL as a means to address health concerns is now subject to significant debate amongst scientists and doctors, especially in respect of statins for women.

Whilst there is plenty of debate on the internet there are also many highly qualified specialists debating the merits, or otherwise, of statins on the basis of evidence from Clinical Trials so there are resources you can go to with some confidence in the qualifications of those discussing the issue. One of these is the book by NHS cardiologist Dr Aseem Molhatra "A statin free life" - there is a lot of useful information in the book, based on evidence from Clinical trials, which you can consider to come to an informed decision on whether statins are for you. There is also useful info on interpreting blood test results which you may find helpful when looking at your results over time.

Hope this may be of help

Take the statins. That cholesterol needs to come down. There are plenty of types so if one doesn't suit you it can be changed. I didn't get on with atorvastatin but simvastatin is fine. My husband thought he had joint pain with simvastatin but it was actually arthritis. Statins have a completely unjustified bad press. No they don't suit everyone but what you will hear about them is mostly hearsay with no actual proof ie a friend of a friend got pain when it was probably normal wear and tear. Some do get pain; they just don't work for some but there are, as was said, 5 types to try so give them a go.

thanks that is reassuring to know. They are trying me on gout meds first to see if that helps my joint pain and then I will start on statins next month.

Good luck. Don't hesitate to ask for a change if the first doesn't suit you. The tablets are by far the best way to get cholesterol down. I( already had severe chronic pain for many years from adhesions and my spine. Statins have not made it worse. Everyone's different; what suits one may not suit another.

So I took my first statin tonight. I'm guessing that they won't really make me feel any different as I would never know I had fatty blood. 🙏 For no side effects.
