Hi all, I had been waiting to get the results of my lipid test to see how the small dose of Rosuvastatin was getting on with helping my cholesterol levels . Got the results back yesterday and GP advises not to change dose at the moment. Interesting to see how my stats have changed from being on 80mg of artovastatin ( stopped due to a list of side effects ) , about 6-7 weeks of no statin ( GP supervision, but GP didnโt take lipid test ๐คฆ๐ผ) then tried 40mg Pravastatin and the side effects came back within a week so I stopped again on pharmacist advice who contacted my GP. Had another lipid test after a few weeks of no statin in April, then out on 10mg Rosuvastatin with a view to titrating if required .
80 mg artovastatin
Serum cholesterol 2.4 mmol/L ( 5 or below)
Serum triglyceride 0.9 (2.3 or below )
Calculated LDL 0.7 (below 3)
Serum HDL cholesterol 1.3 ( 1 or above)
Se non HDL 1.1 (4 or less)
Serum cholesterol/HDL ratio 1.8 ( below 3.5)
April 2024 stopped 40mg Pravastatin for a few weeks , 7 week stop of artovastatin prior
Serum cholesterol 4.5
Serum HDL 1.3
Serum non HDL 3.2
Calculated LDL 2.7
Serum triglycerides 1.2
Serum cholesterol/HDL 3.5
June 2024 10mg Rosuvastatin
Serum cholesterol 3.4
Serum HDL 1.5
Serum non HDL 1.9
Calculated LDL 1.4
Serum triglycerides 1
Serum cholesterol/HDL 2.3
Iโm happy with my Rosuvastatin at the moment ๐๐ป. I have made small lifestyle changes around nutrition , cut out UPFs as much as possible ( I do use benecol spread as a belt and braces ) make my own breads (much reduced salt & sugar) , plenty of extra virgin olive oil , nuts chicken & turkey , salmon , veg & salad. Booze is minimal these days. I like to have a beer maybe once a week but find 2 pints is well enough and impacts my sleep and how I feel the next day , proper lightweight ๐คฃ. I share this for experience and highlight the ups and downs of trying to get meds right on my journey post out of the blue Nstemi heart attack and quadruple bypass july 2023. Also , that I have been very active physically, challenging myself to rehab well. On Monday I passed my module 2 motorcycle test aged 62 that means I can ride unrestricted motorbikes . On Tuesday I picked up my Harley Davidson Spirster 883 and have been riding it in the sunny evenings since. It was quite a tough journey to get this far , started with Compulsory Basic Test in April 2023 , passed and bought a 125cc bike with L plates and rode up until my heart attack ๐คฆ๐ผ. I was back on the 125 after 3 months . I found that I had cognitive impairment and fatigue as 2 of the side effects of artovastatin and that really hindered me taking full day big bike lessons . The training school were fab and gave me two hour lessons that I started in April 2024. I felt better with Rosuvastatin and did a full day lesson and passed module 1 the next day. Letโs all keep on keeping on and supporting each other. Loving my rebirth

Mate , do it . I was so nervous on the Sunday before my test , I needed to give my head a wobble. The sad news about Rob Burrow passing brought things in perspective . His last words โdonโt waste a momentโ hit home. I was nervous about failing , didnโt even recognise that I was decent rider , had the skills to pass.. head in gear , passed, didnโt waste a moment, picked up the bike next day , had it 5 days and ridden it everyday, itโs absolutely awesome , the sound is amazing ๐ป. Do it Baly ๐๐ป๐๐ป๐๐ป
Welcome to the bikers club. I passed my bike test nearly 60 years ago and still ride. Current bike is an MT-07, probably my last, which is like riding a ๐ฒ. Ride safe.
Cheers ๐๐ป๐๐ป๐๐ป Hadnโt ridden since racing grass track as youth in the 70s ๐คฆ๐ผ๐คฃ๐๐ป
Great news mate!! So glad things are going well for you after what you've been through. It's good to see we can all move on regardless of what life throws at you with lifestyle changes and positive thinking. Loving the bike I bet it sounds like a beast.Take care and have fun๐.
Cheers Taz, ๐๐ป๐๐ป๐๐ป. Itโs a huge relief getting that mod2 done. Havenโt ridden since I was a youth , racing grass track in the 70s ๐คฆ๐ผ. I went to a grass track meeting 2 miles from me on BH weekend and recognised a couple of names in the programme . I spoke to a rider in the ours as he came in from a race and confirmed that we used to race together back in the day , couldnโt believe he was still racing at 60 ๐คฃ๐คฃ๐คฃ Bob Dolman ๐๐ป.
Love the Vance & Hines slip ons, the bike burbles , cracks , pops and roars , sounds incredible. Itโs deffo not for speed though , chugs along nicely . My wife said I could have 3 bikes ๐๐ป๐๐ป๐๐ปโฆ hmmm ๐ค. What about you Taz, what you riding ?
3 bikes wow I'd be spoilt for choice but I'd love a ducati hypermotard sp or a mt 07/09? I currently have a suzuki tl1000r bought her 5 years ago and I've not even rode her yet I just start her up now and again to hear it roar and smell the fumes.๐คฃ. I haven't been on a bike for over 20 years and it was the same model bike I have now so once I get the ok or know what the cardiologist says I look at swinging a leg over soon with any luck.Enjoy and be safe mate๐
Hi , I had cognitive impairment, brain fog/vagueness, bouts of huge fatigue like the plug had been pulled, constantly felt cold , aches & pains that made me want to not do anything but sitting still hurt , ED, blood pressure drops from 115/75 to 100/60. Stopped taking artovastatin for a month and smashed my 5 & 10k goals ๐คฆ๐ผ๐คฃ
Great news and well done on the passing the test. Enjoy the ride and take care. Remember there are a lot of car drivers out there that can't see bikes.... and I say that as a car driver, not as a biker. Pillion passenger with lots of miles on the clock only in my younger days.
As regards Rosuvastatin... what a revelation! I had the same issues as you on the others. Now Rosuvastatin at just 10mg knocks enough off my already lowish cholesterol to keep the clinicians happy. ๐
Woohoo ๐๐ป Carsry ๐๐ป๐๐ป๐๐ป. Iโm looking forward to getting back on my bicyclesโฆ. Found out on Friday I need a new hip , no if or buts ๐คฆ๐ผ.. xray showed bone on bone โฆ no my wife knows why Iโve had what she terms IBSโฆ Irritable B@statd Syndrome . ๐คฆ๐ผ๐คฃ๐คฃ๐คฃ
Mucked out the orchard , two very heavy big barrows , .5km a walk each way to dump it on a neighbourโs farm on a new heap (mine is full). Walking like Keyser Sรถze this evening ๐คฆ๐ผ๐คฆ๐ผ๐คฆ๐ผ๐คฃ
Love the smaller Sportster. That would be my road bike of choice if I ever got back in the saddle (rode MX as a kid). I get what your saying about the cognitive issues. I'm on 80 mg atorvastatin and 10 mg ezetimibe and it's hard to focus for long periods of time.
Glad Iโm off that big dose artovastatin, wouldโve been happy to try a lower dose but it wasnโt given as an option ๐คท. Yeah the little sportster is fantastic, really reminded me of my old grass track bike to sit on (in the 70s ๐คฆ๐ผ ) felt so familiar. Found a decaying photo of me and 2 mates at a meeting , sadly none of me on my bike but my mate with 250cc bultaco
Glad you are fulfilling your dreams. And well done for getting your licence. It must take some energy riding those bikes . But what a thrill . I have my driving (car) test tomorrow . I am doing it rather late in life. And am resting as much as possible today as I don't want any angina tomorrow.
Thatโs a great goal Poppy, I can empathise with what youโve had to go through to get test ready. The new way is very thorough. Wishing you the best of luck for your test ๐ค๐ป๐ค๐ป๐ค๐ป
Hi really great news for you buddy it's nice to see that you got to the bottom of it and now are enjoying life as should be.
There's alot of replies so not sure of this has been answered what side effects have you had with astorvastatin?
I was on 80mg after stemi heart attack all my chloestral levels did come down but as you horrible side effects dizzyness vertigo blurry eyes sensitivity to light they reduced me to 40mg but no joy. Since they have stopped other tablets ramapril biscoloprol and lansaprazole and still am suffering mainly with the eyes. Wondering if this was your case too am still taking ticagrelor aspirin along with astorvastatin 40mg.
Hi Usy, I have posted quite a bit about my journey , you might be able to find the earlier posts .
I had a lot of aches & pains, I could tell they were t from over exertion , I was training to run 5k as part of my my rehab goals and physical work round my small holding . The pains were in my joints , and muscles made me just want to sit still but even that was painful . Huge waves of fatigue , vagueness, cognitive impairment, I couldnโt reconcile a credit card statement, paid it a day late too ๐คฆ๐ผ, couldnโt focus , blood pressure drops from 125/75 to 100/60 , Constantly felt cold , hard to keep warm , was wearing so many layers indoors it was a joke with my family ๐คฆ๐ผ. ED , felt like I had sand in my eyes .. zombie episodes of being spaced out .
