Hiya,

I'm starting recovery week 7 after an elective triple bypass. Advised to sleep on back until sternum sorts itself out. Does anyone know when and how I can begin to rest on my side.

Thanks

Hi , I don’t know when you can rest on your side but when you can , you should place a pillow between your knees and one at your back to prevent roll over at night .

If I remember correctly - it was when it doesn’t hurt to lay on your side. Some people can do it within a month or two, others can be longer.

Hello,

Being a side sleeper the first time I could sleep on my side was sheer bliss! I was told I could try my side and if my sternum didn’t object it was ok. We all heal at different rates so don’t think there is a definitive time scale.

I was about 8 weeks, though carried on sleeping with my arms wrapped around my rolled up blanket just a bit of security 😂

Best wishes Pauline

I don't envy you being where you are in this heat. From memory I was switching to side sleeping around about the time you are now...but I was wrapped up in so many pillows and duvets it looked like an airbag had gone off! So not really practical in these temperatures.

Good luck!
