Today in my pacemaker check up doctors said I have AF. Dont really know what's next. Have to wait to see my cardiologist. I'm on bisoprolol. Horrible tablets. Hate taking them. So many side effects. Dont know if my meds will have to change now.

I have a pacemaker and only take Bisoprolol and Apixaban for the Afib. I have SVT, ectopics, heart block and Afib but I can't tell which is which symptom wise 🤷‍♀️

Thanks for the reply. My symptoms were my heart beating completely out of sync. Quite scary. Just waiting to see what delights the cardiologist will want me to take next. Not higher doses of bisoprolol I hope not.🙄

I'm on 2.5 my Cardio suggested 5 so I tried 3.75 but prefer being on the lower dose which he's happy with, I still have a shed load of symptoms but I don't want to upset the apple cart with any new meds !

Hi,Gosh, it's so strange hearing soany people having bad reactions to bisoprolol. I havnt had any at all?? Im so sorry this tablet isn't agreeing with you. Hopefully you will be able to change it and feel better soon.

Hi Doora, I wanted to learn why you might not have side effects like some of us. What heart conditions/surgeries do/did you have? And if you are taking any other medications/natural supplements? And why are you taking bisoprolol? A little insight will help me know why I had so many side effects.

Hi CillyGirl,I've no idea why I don't have any negative reaction to my heart meds? When I was I'm hospital I just took what i was given and was grateful to be alive. When i got home the only problem I had was with the statin as 80mg was too much for me so they reduced it to 40mg. I am on clopidogrel, aspirin, bisoprolol and atorvastatin. I was taking the bisoprolol at the same time as my other blood pressure tablet and it was making me very dizzy/ lightheaded so.i was advised to take them separately. I must just be lucky as I've heard of lots of people having nasty side effects. I'm on pain meds too for a back condition and I'm in the middle of changing them all because I can no longer take anti inflamatories due to risk of stroke/ heart attack. Strangely I'm having nasty side effects with them!!

I had a HA and mild stenosis in an artery, so a stent was put in. My heart is otherwise healthy. ive already mentioned what heart medication i am on. I believe it varies between hospitals as to what you are put on originally, as they all have their preferred meds, and then , in my case, the cardio consultant checked and approved my heart meds. As i said previously, i think ive just been lucky. Bisoprolol was prescribed along with my other heart meds. It is used to lower the heart rate and blood pressure just so the heart doesnt have to work so hard to pump the blood round your body.

Thanks Doora, I see that are heart situation is different. I track my BP, Weight, and Sugar. Bisoprolol did lower my pulse but my Blood Pressure was not high anyway unless I did yard work. It was messing with my BP medicine in my heart medicine. It was causing swelling, pain where I had no teeth (top) and the ones I did have (bottom), plus coldness of hand & feet, and concentration. I am only on 2 medications. Heart medicine w/blood pressure medicine and insulin. I've had no surgeries as of yet. I am truly blessed. It's true, medicines can and does interact with each other to cause other problems. Thanks for e-mailing me back. Have a Blessed Day!

My cardiologist told me they have an arsenal of medicines they can use. They start with Bisporolol because it is cheap and does the job well for most people - but not for some. I blame it for making me depressed - a depression that lifted when they switched me to Diltiazem but your mileage may certainly vary! Give Bisoprolol a good try but don't be afraid to discuss side effects with your medical team.By the way - look up the Atrial Fibrillation Association (AFA); they have a forum on Health Unlocked too - you'll find more specific information there. You are not alone and AF won't kill you.

By the way (again), are you on anti-coagulants? They are pretty important to avoid a debilitating stroke.

Thankyou so much for your reply. It helps to know that others have the same problems. No I'm not on any other meds only bisoprolol and bp tabs. Bisoprolol is definitely causing me to have low mood as well as other symptoms. Just waiting to see cardiologist next.

Check out the AF forum on health unlocked. Anticoagulant is very important as it protects against stroke which is the main concern with AF. However, is often recommended for over 65s only so don’t know your age.

Thankyou for your reply. I'm hoping cardiologist will suggest something as dont fancy having a stroke at 57.

Indeed - but at 57 it’s very low. You should ask to see an EP (electrophysiologist) as they specialise in the “electrics” of the heart as opposed to the “plumbing”.

I am on Bisoprolol and Degoxin I don’t like the side effects but they do the job of keeping my heart rate down until I can get a pacemaker fitted which the latest advice from Carology at Stoke ?
