Amlodipine nastiness!
I have taken the amlodipine for 2 years and never had a taste nor does it begin to dissolve in my mouth? Perhaps you should ask the pharmacist as it may be the brand and the way it is made or the certain fillers used in the tablets? .....Mine are tablets made in the USA by Lupin Pharmaceuticals, Inc.Hope that helps.
Take it a night with a glass of water then brush teeth
Urgh amlodipine is one that is really difficult to swallow - why is that I wonder? If you are ok taking tablets generally and you take other tablets also, you might be better doing as I do and swallowing them all at the same time.
Thanks everyone. I don’t have problems swallowing other meds. I take them all together at night. I’ll see if they can supply a different brand.
I was on it for six months. Never had any problems
I find that when I take mine they start dissolving and then difficult to swallow too. I find taking a sip of water and keep it in your mouth when you slip the tablet in that stops it dissolving and I can swallow it better. Just an idea. You want just enough water in your mouth to wet it then when you take the tablet take a bit more water so you can swallow it.
I also find that Amlodipine tastes awful and sticks to the tongue or mouth. I find it best to take it on its own. I hold it on the tip of my tongue and then quickly swill it down with a glass of water
I’ve been on it many years and have the art of swallowing it down to an art! Have a drink of plain water ready along with a boiled mint sweet. Immediately you swallow the pill have a drink and then the mint.
It still beats me sometimes though!
Can I ask why you take the Amlodipine tablets for? Is it blood pressure or another reason. Am in the uk. Just Been prescribed them..Just curious..
Hi Frootbat like some of the other replies I’ve not experienced any taste in the 2 yrs I have been taking them. Best of luck.
Hi Frootbat, Yes, I know what you mean! However, it is down to the pharmaceutical company because I had no problem at all with the previous brand ( which I unfortunately didn't keep the packaging from and I have no idea which manufacturer it was) but in my most recent supply there is clearly no coating on the tablet and it is incredibly bitter; so I am going to ask my pharmacist to revert to the previous brand. If I succeed, I will post back the other brand name, so you know which one to ask for.In the meantime, a couple of bites of banana afterwards has helped me.
Good luck!
hi there. i dont like the taste either so i just get my favourite cake, chew it and before swallowing, just pop the tablet in then swallow. then drink some water. try this with any food you like really that you enjoy. good luck.
