Soup, yoghurt, milk in cereal, tea, coffee, anything liquid.

The carton will show the volume in mls or fluid ounces. 50 fluid ozs is roughly 1500 ml. My limit is 1300 so I tend to suck an ice cube when hot rather than have a glass of water, to save some of my daily allowance.

Weigh yourself every morning at the same time and , if your weight jumps by more than a couple of pounds report it to your health caters.

I used to have my litre of water in a jug in the fridge. I measured out the amount of water for a small mug of tea from that as well as drinking water. I didn’t count yoghurt as a fluid but I have a thick one not the thinner versions.

I didn’t have soup which is what I counted as fluid food.

I didn’t count pasta and rice dishes either. We don’t eat fondues but I did eat mussels in a sauce without counting it. I just had a little less fluid from my daily intake to offset it.

My HF nurse was onboard with what I did once all the excess fluid had come off which took about 6-8 wks. I was on 2 diuretics daily at the time.

As I have heart failure I followed the ‘living with heart failure’ guide which I have a hard copy of but is available online to download. That’s if you have HF of course!

Forgot to say I had to cut down on salt as well - as in none! Within about 6 wks my levels were so low I got told to add it back in. I’m not overly fond of salt so am happy with just a little.
