Mobitz Type 1/Wenckebach AV Heart Block

I received the results of a recent 48 hour Holter monitor today. I had the Holter fitted because I'd been experiencing palpitations and skipped beats; this has settled down now and I think may have been largely stress-related.I was diagnosed with non-obstructive CAD back in 2018 and take statins etc.

The letter says that no tachy- or brady- arrythmias were detected, but there were 'episodes of Wenkebach at night'. It goes on to say this is a 'normal finding in an athletic chap.'

I don't drive and walk 4-5 miles a day, I can do about 20 miles in an exercise bike session, but middle age has caught up with my middle and I hardly consider myself athletic! The letter concludes that no further investigations or follow-ups are proposed.

Has anyone else had a similar result or know that they have Mobitz Type 1/Wenckebach? Is it really not a cause for concern?

Grateful for any replies!

I have had the same thing, although older lady with mitral valve regurgitation. Have been discharged back to gp but told to report back any changes. My doctor had to check what these might be and I was told fainting. I didn't feel overly reassured.

Hello ceorl,I'm 26 now but three years ago I was lying down and I felt Several missed beats, this scared the hell out of me. Like you I also has the 48-hour holter monitor, which came back as having periods of Wenkeback at night. Im not Athletic but I do walk a lot, that's also what the cardiologist told me.

But for extra reasurance, I got in touch with a cardiologist that specialises in heart block and he said that it is completely normal and if it's due to being health and fit there is nothing to worry about and it never turns into a higher degree heart block! He also said that a lot of younger and middle age people have it without even knowing. I hope this reasures you a bit as I know it would of done me a few years back!

Although I do still get the skipped beats mostly when I'm stressed and if I've ate too much at night and go Straight to bed😂other than that it now doesn't bother me at all. I hardly feel them now as I don't pay any attention to them.

Not what you're looking for?
