New Member. Hi!

Life long cardiac patient. Am 41 years if age and had aortic heart valve replacement at 15 years if age. Have been on warfarin therapy and Ramipril for years. Generally well but recent test shows reduced pumping capacity and now have been referred for MRI. May well be facing valve replacement in near to medium future. Down at the moment but trying to pick self up and be positive for future!

Hi Seaguller,

Welcome to the forum. Pleased to have you with us. You will find a sorts here, from "old hands" like yourself to those still in shock after finding themselves in the hearties club.

I think keeping positive is the best thing that we can do for ourselves. Each day is a new adventure and looking to the future, even in these uncertain times, is the best attitude to have. I am sure the MRI scan will provide more information on how you are doing and perhaps provide a clearer picture of what and when will be required.

My best wishes for the future.

Gerald

Hi Seaguller, Though my problems didn't start from such a young age, I've had repeated heart interventions, stents, repeat stents, bypass, aortic valve replacement over the years, and I understand your apprehension. I hope you get your scan and follow up soon. Medical knowledge and practice has advanced so much in recent years. I focus on how much better I'm going to feel after whatever is needed is done. When I have been patched up again I'm amazed that I feel even better than I imagined! Good luck on your journey. There will always be people here to support you.

Thanks. That means a lot. Can I ask is your lifestyle affected or limited?

At various points on my journey my lifestyle has been affected and I've had to let go of some things and develop new pleasures. This has often been because I put off seeking medical attention until things get really restrictive, but as I said after each intervention I've been fortunate to have been able to do most things for some years, except climbing mountains or scuba diving and those sorts of really active pastimes, though there are plenty of people on the forum who do amazing physical things despite being hearties. We are all different and the future is never as bad as we imagine when we are feeling low. I hope this answers your question. I think it's not knowing what the outcome of the tests will be that is the worst time. Keeping my fingers crossed for you.
