Hi, I had my pacemaker implanted at the end of March and was suffering insomnia due, I think, to the meds. However, I am pleased to report that I am now sleeping much better. I had my follow-up appt at hospital and was given a monitor to place beside my bed. Just wondered if this is usual practice?

Well it is for a icd but don't know bout pacemaker

Hi LittleFrance. That's all I can say is that I had a Dual Pacemaker last September after OHS. I wasn't given a Monitor at all. Maybe it is different to the one you have mind. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy to have it, but it has gone from one extreme to the other. An absolutely huge Haematoma at the start, took about 2 months to go down and now it has decided to go completely the other way and sticks in me when I move and protrudes a lot!! It keeps me awake, a lot, at times though, being quite painful. Going to give the Hospital a ring tomorrow I think and see what they suggest!

Hi Snowflake20, Sorry to hear of the problems you’ve had and are still experiencing. All things considered, I have been very lucky. The pacemaker itself presented no problems apart from initial post op discomfort - it’s a Boston Scientific - it was the meds’ that gave me problems but that seems to be settling down. I was surprised to be given the monitor - maybe different policies in different areas? I really hope the Hospital can offer some help tomorrow. Good luck.

Well thanks for your reply LittleFrance. It's not too much to worry about and, certainly not enough to moan about, you know! 😊 I just looked at the Card they gave me and I had a Boston one as well! At the moment, I've just stuck a very big Plaster on it not for it to rub me too much lol !! I am much better now than I used to feel before the OHS so I am just grateful for that! Glad you're ok now too 😊

I received my pacemaker 3/29/21 and it protruded a lot and was quite tender in the area,,,,at 3 weeks,it was still that way! Then I woke up one morn and poof,,,,,,it seemed to have disappeared overnight as I slept,,,the area was flat and much less tender,,,,it really surprised me,,,I wondered where it had gone?? I must say sleeping is now much more comfortable,,,it is now 65 days and finally total comfort as long as i don’t press on it,,,,hang in there!

Hi Hdev. Well first of all thanks very much for your reply! I managed to get through to the Nurse who dealt with me at the Pacemaker Clinic today. She is absolutely lovely 😊. She asked if I could send a Photo of it to her by E-Mail so I did. About 10 minutes after I sent it, she phoned me and I have to go to see her on the 4th June. If they have a Cancellation, she will ring me before. I had this last October and she has concerns that the Skin could break. Not good as I'm on Warfarin for Life! She also said about trying to go to the Chemist and get some Padding for it in the meantime. I have just come back from getting it and the Chemist advised 'Mesoft Padding' and 'Micropore' to stick it with! So, now, I will just have to see what they're going to do! Secondly, I'm glad you are alright now though! 😊

Being cautious is always a good idea,,,,,hope the padding helps,,,I did that too,,,,I also got the monitor,,,,and saw a tech at 6 weeks to make sure the pm was working correctly,,,,,will have a 2nd tech check in July,,,,the doctor would also be notified if anything weird shows as it records me at random during the nights,,,,I am in the US and the system keeps a pretty close eye on patient progress,,,,here’s wishing you well!

Hi again. Sorry it's only now I'm getting back to you but I have been rather busy. I did have a much better night's sleep with the Padding so just thankful for that. I've already had the Pacemaker re-programmed in January. I cannot moan mind because the NHS here in Wales, UK are fantastic! Take Care 🙂

I was given a monitor when I had a pacemaker fitted last October. I think it's standard these days.

I’ve got an app on my phone that connects to my PM using Bluetooth. It’s an alternative to the box, but it’s for remote monitoring all the same.

Morning. My husband had a dual pacemaker fitted a year ago due to Heart block and he received a monitor. I think this is normal practice these days. Take care.

I had a pacemaker fitted last November, and I haven’t got a monitor. What is it for?

Hi, I've had my pacemaker and monitor since Nov 2019 and assumed it was universal practice. I believe it provides your pacemaker clinic with data to confirm the pacemaker is working properly, that there are no unexpected high or low HRs and checks the remaining battery life. Suggest you call your pacemaker clinic for more information or contact the manufacturers.
