Should I worry after heavy fall?

I was carrying a very heavy bedside cabinet and fell on the floor, no warning nor trip that I'm aware of. I think I may have fainted. Anyway, serious bruises to my arms and a hefty wack to my chest. Now some serious pain in chest mechanics and some loose clicking in ribs at bottom rib level. I had open heart surgery 8 months ago. Should I worry or go to A&E? I can still move quite normally but have had to rest up for a few days.

Hi Wooodsie,

Ouch! I fell and broke my ribs a few weeks ago. Blimey it's painful!

Hug a cushion when you need to sneeze, cough or laugh.

I would give 111 a call just to get some medical advice as you've had surgery in the last year.

Also you may need some further investigations as to why you fell.

Ahh, my mentor! Gosh you too!! Yes, I like the cushion idea, laughing and sneezing is an issue, withput the T so to speak. Feels like I've just had the op 🤷‍♂️

I hope you are OK Milkfairy, I will rest again tonight and see how it is in the morning. If it's a rib, nothing much can be done so long as it doesn't puncture anything 😂🤔

Thanks for replying.

Carrying a heavy weight, even just for a few steps, is exercise. One of the key messages in the cardio rehab programme is that heart patients need to warm-up and cool-down when exercising. We need to warm up so that our small capilliaries are fully open and delivering oxygen to our muscles, and we need to cool down to prevent fainting/syncope (which is a side effect with beta blockers, ACE inhibitors, and other common heart medication)

The cardio rehab course I attended spoke about swinging your arms and bending your knees even before gardening or housework, and if you exerted yourself then afterwards walk on the spot or walk around the house for a minute or two before sitting down.

Thanks Chappychap, I should have born that in mind. I will next time. Hopefully, there won't be too many next times 😂😂🤞

Hi Bingo88, I did 111 online and they said A&E too, so I'm off today. Thanks for replying.

Well I hope everything is ok. Please let let us know and take care. We need to slow down a bit we are not youngsters anymore. I had a fall last year coming out of roadside services. Because of these masks steaming your glasses up. But I was lucky. Take care. Brian

Definitely go to a/e , broken ribs aren’t fun , I’ve broke mine three times due to asthma , holding a pillow at your stomach when getting up off a chair helps also when you cough . But definitely go to a/e for your own peace of mind .

Thanks Notdead, that's terrible that you can break a rib through asthma, I'm sorry to hear that. I did 111 online and they said A&E too, so I'm off today. Thanks for replying.
